If it is a flat cable, look for a wide connector on the back of the drive, if it has four wires, there is a white connector, on the drive.

Check the back of your CD drive. There should be three cables connected to it. Looking from the back, the far left cable is a small cable with a little flat connector on it. That is the sound cable, and it's slot is hard to miss. Next, in the center is the IDE cable. It is a wide flat cable that connects to the drives 40 pin IDE connector. It has an alignment notch in the middle. Third is the power cable. It is a white molex connector that has a red a yellow and two black wires. It goes on the far right. Look at it because it only connects one way. The connecter has rounded corner on one side and square ones on the other.

Sorry to hear about that,

Generally, there are easier ways to see how much RAM you have. For instance, press and hold the Windows Key and press the break key or right click on the "My Computer" icon.

Anyway, if the connector that is disconnected is about 2 inches long and your CD ROM drive is not working it probably belongs to interface on the back of the CD ROM drive. Shutdown your computer and reconnect. Then, power on again. There should be 2 cables connected to the CD ROM drive and on occasion there is a 3rd little wire connected as well.

Hope this helps you,
Good Luck
