I am not sure it matters where as much as how: make sure it doesn't touch the ground. If you have more than one flag with it, make sure it has the place of honor (higher than the second flag) That is if you are hanging it on a pole. Also other nation's flags should not be hung on the same pole in times of peace. Keep them seperate. I believe other flags, such as military can be hung with the American Flag. If you are hanging it flat against the wall of the house the stars belong in the upper left when viewing it. It should also not be place on ceilings. I hope this helps

not touching the ground obviously.And if it is out at night it has to have a light on it.Also, if it is tattered you have to have it retired properly(the local elks lodge and such organizations do this sort of thing).and try to not have it being obscured by a tree branch of anything.
