I live in the desert, and the dust is so fine that it clogs the pores of the vacuum bag, which sends a signal that the bag is full and needs to be changed. I think I might have to b Whayuy a new vacuum. What brand/model would you reccomend?

I know exactly what you're talking about. It might seem as though a bagless is the way to go, because you have no bag to clog up, but what you'll actually be doing is relying on a filter with an even smaller surface area to collect dust instead. It would DEFINITELY MAGNIFY your problem. The best thing you can do is install a central vac, because it won't recirculate any dust. Removes 100% of what it comes in contact with. When you check out central vacs, don't get one with a bag. There are units out there with gortex fitlers that shed dust, so you won't have to replace the filter, or clean it, and it won't clog.
If that route is too expensive, try using high filtration bags. They are made out of a white cloth-like material, and they don't face load as bad as regular paper bags. Riccar and Miele are both good portable vacuums that offer high filtration bags. Or you might be able to find them for the vacuum you own now.

I know that everybody here says Dyson.... I'm sure that it's a good vacuum, but I'm not forking out $400+ for a vacuum.... I have a Hoover Savvy... It's a fraction of the cost $200 and it works great... It's a bagless vacuum w/ a filter... I use baking soda about once a month and it gets it all out of the carpet.. .For example, when I moved into my current house the former occupant smoked heavily and it smelled so I dumped 12+ lbs of baking soda on to the carpet to absorb the smell. My vacuum was super at picking it up...! The filter just comes out of the canister and can be shaken (outside) it's generally good for about 2 yrs. and $40 to replace, but I think it's worth it... I even got the Hoover extended warranty for an extra 3 yrs of service and it's still less than the Dyson... I've taken it to get repaired twice and once for an overall clean and check.. It cost me $5 for a part... It also has the furniture attachments and it's not too heavy.. I also have vacuumed the hair off my dog with it... So, it's worked for me very well and I've had it about 4 yrs +. Just an alternate suggestion... I would buy one and test it out if it doesn't work for you take it back to the store... Just keep the receipt..

Something with a washable filter where instead of having to change bags you could just rinse out the fine dust from the vacuums filter. The Hoovers are really good bag less vacuums. Good Luck!

A Dyson or Orreck is the best. I paid a lot for my Dyson and then gave it away because it was too heavy but it does the job. I was ashamed to see how much junk I had. It is well worth your money.
I gave it away to my daughter who needed it more than I did. They are making a newer version of Dyson that is skinnier than the older one. I had what was called "The animal."

I would HIGHLY recommend a shop vac for your particular situation.... When we moved into our new house, I destroyed my vaccuum with all the construction dust and dirt.... I simply went to Sears and bought a shop vac that fit into my closet, has a LOT of accessories and will suck up either wet or dry. And it has suction power that never ends!! Sure solved my problem!

I highly reccomend a Simplicity vaccuum. I payed about $700, but it pays for itself. I'm not too sure about the dust, but you can check this site out:

A central vacuum expells to the outside air. Do not know exactly how much you wanted to spend money wise or installation wise. Might want to investigate that.

if you've ever heard of a dyson, you will not be disappointed. i've heard nothing but good stuff about them if you want to spend $400 on one
