The Daily Show’ Ridicules Bush-Supporting Vietnam Veteran
“The Daily Show” often pokes fun at President Bush and his closest advisors and Cabinet members, but isn’t it a little low, even for “The Daily Show,” to mock a Vietnam veteran because he supports the President?
On June 25, the Comedy Central show did exactly that, airing a pre-recorded and what appears to be a heavily edited interview with Bill Thomas, a Vietnam veteran who won four Bronze Stars and three Purple Heart medals. Back in April, Thomas decided to give one his Purple Heart to President Bush, believing that the President is a “a hero by virtue of the fact that he’s shown phenomenal courage in the face of bitter personal attacks on his competence, his integrity and everything else.”
On Monday's program, “Daily Show” correspondent Jason Jones sarcastically mocked Thomas’ gesture, asking over and over again who his gift was intended for:

Just because the bush administration lied about kerry doesn't make it right to mock a hero. The man fought for our country, he deserves respect, he is more than any of you worthless piles of snot who aren't brave enough to do the same, and who feel it's right to mock someone who had the courage to do it. That is low even for the daily show, that's low for any human being.

After the hatchet job done on Kerry in '04 (he wasn't wounded ENOUGH????), you can seriously question when a COMEDY show ridicules someone for giving away his medal to a MORON???

hahahahahahahah

Lighten up - the Daily Show is about as much of a news broadcast as Michael Moore's movies are "documentaries."

I personally think the veteran's gesture was genuine - and, unfortunately, really good fodder for the far left to lampoon.

are you a vet? have you received a purple heart? that man giving that medal to president bush made a mockery of what that medal means...that is for combat wounded soldiers alone...no one else can receive it or deserves it. was bush ever wounded in combat? did bush ever see combat? giving the purple heart to bush is like crowning a man as miss America

The main tactic of the Republican Campaign in 2004 was mocking a Viet Nam Veteran and questioning his patrioism and courage -- did you protest that?

I don't think Bush deserves a purple heart.

Max Cleland and John Kerry were pilloried by the GOP. What goes around, comes around.

haha people need to relax, the daily show and the colbert report are basically anti-establishment so they'll mock just about anyone. their programs are really entertaining and enlightening; many of their guests are absolutely fascinating individuals.

so... only Republicans can mock people who got purple hearts in Vietnam?

I don't know how many smears I've heard about Kerry who got a few, if I remember correctly... even going to the point of saying he injured himself... which I don't think is true, according to everything I've seen...

I didn't see that one, but it does seem inappropriate to give a military medal to a man who never served in the military and who has brought nothing but shame onto our nation and the office of president.
