I agree with the others...depends on what test the dr is using to base his/her "guess", and when it was administered. From my understanding, amnio is very reliable. The ultrasound, however, has reliability issues. Personally, I didn't want the tech or dr to tell us what we were expecting. My husband was fit to be tied, and stared at the ultrasound screen intently looking for a clue...our little acrobat didn't cooperate. Around the time I was expecting our second child, my mom was working with three women who had given birth within 6 months or so. All three had ultrasounds at three different local hospitals and were told the sex of their respective children. All three brought home children of the opposite sex of what they were told. In the end, you won't know for sure until your child arrives. At that point, most people are more concerned with "is he/she healthy?"
My suggestion...pick out--and agree to--a girl name AND a boy name and remember that the clothes most babies wear for the first few months consist primarily of onesies and sleepers; many of which are uni-sex and outgrown very quickly.
Try not to stress too much over the boy/girl thing; spend your time getting ready for the baby...have the bassinet or crib set up, things like that. Most importantly, try to get some rest; you'll be glad you did!

yes it has happened to me I a was told by my first doctor that I was having a girl and 3 weeks later the other doctor told me I was having a boy. So it happens, I went out and bought lots of girl clothes and now I am stuck with them and don't know what to do. I will bring two outfits with me one for a girl and one for a boy and see what happens. Oh yeah I am 35 weeks.

A friend of mine was told during her scan that she was having a girl, she was ecstatic, she had a boy already. This particular radiologist has a reputation for always being correct - well, not this time! My friend was initially quite upset, but of coarse wouldn't swap him now for the world! If you are told it's a boy, it's less likely to be wrong. The radiologist has probably seen the penis. If you're told its a girl, the cheeky monkey may have his willy tucked away out of sight! Overall, they're pretty accurate, but in the long run, does it really matter? As long as your baby is healthy, having the gender of choice is a bonus!

I know - I'm in the same boat - The Ultrasound technician told me that she's 90% sure it's a girl....but I have heard of a few cases where they have made mistakes so it makes me worried that I'm going to end up with an entirely girly wardrobe and end up having a boy.....I think Ultrasounds are pretty reliable but they do make mistakes.

With the kind of technology we enjoy nowadays, I won't doubt the doctor. However, doctors r still humans n are still prone to errors. On a sidenote, the doctor told my parents tt I was a girl, but hey i turned out to be a stable n healthy baby boy...
Gd luck :)

The chances are 50/50. If "it" was tucked between the legs on the ultrasound, you could have a big surprise this did happen to someone I know. The DR. said "oops" .

The doctor is proably right, but somtimes it is difficult to determine on an ultrasound if a baby is boy or not...sometimes boys can be what they call "shy." Later on in the pregnancy the doctors guess will be more and more accurate.
