I have several favorites. I personally prefer his short stories. My favorite is Hills Like White Elephants. As for his novels, I adore his last, unfinished novel that was published a few years ago, The Garden of Eden. However it is entirely different from anything Hemingway ever read and before you read it, you should read some of his more traditional novels, The Old Man and the Sea, The Son Also Rises as well as a good smattering of his short stories - if you go right to The Garden of Eden, you will be left very confused about Hemingway. I heard he carried it around for almost 40 years, unable to finish it. Pax - C

I love his short stories. If you want to get a good idea of how he writes without diving into a novel try a short story first. Many, as I found out tonight, are posted on-line. Also, see the link below for The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway

"The Old Man and the Sea"
This concise and deceptively simple novel has epic proportions. In here, Hemingway’s understatements, stoicism, simplicity and symbolically loaded narrative is at its best.
Hemingway received the Pulitzer Prize for this work and it was specifically mention when he received the Nobel Prize
Undoubtedly, this is Hemingway’s masterpiece.

Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises is great, has a great main female character and loads of culture and romance! Very easy to read too.

Try "For Whom the Bell Tolls". It takes place during the Spanish Civil War so you may learn a little history while you enjoy adventure, romance and heroism. Be prepared to cry at the end.

The Sun Also Rises, For Whom The Bell Tolls.
just remember he was a very complex man, these are not easy summer reads, these are novels that take thought and have hidden agenda.
If you are young, wait to read them or it will be for naught.
