Shouldn't this be an issue that is decided state by state? If Texas wants to make it illegal for employers to hire undocumented workers - let them. If California wants to educate everyone for free regardless of status - let them. If Florida wants to deport first time offenders - let them. Again, would you agree or disagree that most of what is covered in the immigration bill outside of borders and citizenship should be left to the individual states. Thanks in andvance.

Constitutionally the issue you bring up is covered in two concepts. a) supremacy of the federal law over state law. b) full faith in contracts, which means that any contract made in one state is honored by all states and the federal government.
These provisions mean that one state passing a law which allows illegal aliens to enter into contract would require that other states honor those contracts. In order to prevent state-to-state discord the federal government will pass a law to define the rules for all states. That law would be supreme.

BTW its does bring up other interesting issues like gay marriage. That is a contract made in one state..... Also firearms permits, licenses, etc....

Well I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I personally think that that is a bad idea. This country was founded on union, hence the name "The UNITED States of America." I think it would be fine for states to keep some laws that only the state has to follow, but with a limit. It's OK for the states of such a large country to have individuality, but not so much as to become separate smaller countries. For every single state to work out ALL of their issues by themselves, would mean that there is no need for a USA, instead...states would become so apart from all the others that there would be 49 new countries.

Are you following?

This country in which we live in has only become this successful, by staying together, and being ONE big union.

States' rights seem to be nearly a dead issue. The federal government is clearly ascendent at the moment. Any attempts by the states to deal with the issue of illegal immigration are routinely challenged in the courts, anyway.

Everyone in every state has to pay taxes, that's federal, not state. It's not fair the illegals in Texas not to pay taxes when everyone else has to (were texas to decide to have them). So no, I disagree.

States must be given the autonomy to decide or allow free education, employment pratices and welfare as long as they have the budget to support their projects.
