Now you're thinking logically. Our politicians traded logic for emotion and mudslinging a long time ago. I'm not sure they even know why they do what they do anymore. It's all about getting elected and staying in power. Phrases like "common good" are no longer in the political vocabulary. Some right-wingers would probably even tell you that "common good" is a communist concept and has no place in the U.S.A. This from the country that was supposed to be "dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal" and promised everyone the rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." I wonder how many politicians have even read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights from beginning to end and really understood the meaning of the words.

Alert! There are only a handful of statesmen in the U.S. Senate or Congress. 99% are professional politicians who care only about themselves and maintaining the plush 'jobs" they have with all the perks, power and money.
Alert! they care nothing about what is best for you or me or the U.S. citizens. Until then we will continue to vote for whoever tickles our ears on any particular issue and we will continue to be stuck with incompetent, self-serving politicians who insult those who elect them by selling us out to their own special interests.
Alert: The U.S.A. is not the Country it was founded to be. Only we can take it back but we will first need to be awakened from our stupor.
I can only hope that America wakes up to the fact that there are more important things than American Idol, Paris Hilton, etc., that the politicians count on to lull us into a semi comatose state. Only then can real Americans restore the U.S. to the great Nation we were founded to be.

Hency my idea for campaign finance reform.
All donations in cash, services, or advertisements are forbidden to be given to any politician or party, unless they come from an individual person. All companies, unions, special interests, etc. are forbidden.
The only exception to the rule above is special interest groups that are financed solely through individual contributions, not any kind of dues. Examples would include NRA, Sierra Club, etc. where like minded folks contribute to pool their money for greater effect.

Unfortunately the federal legislature (both sides of the aisle) nowadays cares only about keeping their jobs and pleasing their campaign contributors. What we want is a distant third.
