Im thinking it's to help others, love others, and to create things that benefit our future and our family in the future.
...just MY thought.

The importance of life is to make something out of it. If you don't think that life has any meaning, than your life wont' have any meaning. Life is an opportunity, and all opportunities are only what you create from them. If you find it important, there you go. There is no universal "meaning to life" because human beings are not generic and uniform in comparison to each other. If you believe that the most important thing in your life is to make an everlasting impression on other people, than that is the importance of life, for YOU. Honestly, the importance of one's life can be as simple as learning to juggle.

In nature the importance of the lower life forms is in fact to survive and reproduce. However in humans we have accepted the fact that we have a higher level of life, and therefore have more responsibilities in our lives. We also must survive and reproduce, but we also need other things to make us "complete", we all need acceptance into a group or groups. be it church, social events, school, local groups, or whatever. We need to be needed and loved by someone, we need to love, we strive for emotions that we love to have, and shun the emotions we dislike. Some people need a higher being to worship, some do not. We need to believe that our life means something, not only to us but to other people around us.
But also, we are not really so high after all, dogs love us, and need love from us, they need to be accepted by us, and will quickly join a group if they can, so we must separate out what distinguishes us from the animals.. Spirituality. We humans must feel that life will continue in one form or another even after our death., and if we do, then that is called religion, and each person must decide within that context what is important in their lives. Is it providing for family? other animals do that. Is it making more money? Animals squabble over property and possessions. Is it living a life that is better than it could be? is it restraining your emotions and actions to blend with your beliefs? Is it following guidelines that were set before you arrived? I think that if you believe that making an everlasting impression on other people is important to your life, then you would naturally do the things above in order to make that impression. So sometimes the important things in our lives cause us to become better humans in spite of ourselves.

Personally, the idea of making an 'everlasting impression' upon others would be a fools errand at best. I would suggest instead that to simply 'be' i.e. be a good soul as best you can muster is what is most important. Just have\find the courage to REALLY accept and do the 'right thing' in all circumstances (even if it is unpleasent.) That, to me is what seems most important. Blessings...

It appears that there is no 'ready made meaning' out there for us to guide our lives by. So in an important sense our primary task in life is to make our own lives meaningful, which is a tall order. Though it is a lot of responsibility, it can be very satisfying and can happen in a near infinite number of ways.

Life is kind of like a test to get into Heaven.
We must learn that goodness is the source of all happiness and that evil causes pain and suffering.
We must love God and we must love our neighbor.

Maybe it has to do with helping as many people as you can. I honestly don't know. I can't wait to see what others say though, good question.

Wow. You must be exhausted. That's a whole lot of work ahead of you. Thanks, but I'll decline. That would a life long endeavour with little success.
