At the rate the Giants are playing he may pitch a no-hitter and lose.
He the best 2-9 starter in league. He does not get any run support, case in point the 1-0 game he pitched in Boston a few weeks ago.
He has the stuff to do it, but unfortunately the team behind is not very good.
The concern is not whether or not he pitches a no-hitter, the concern should be will he win 15-20 games a year in his career? Judging by his make-up, I say he has what it takes to win 20 games a year, but then again he has to have a team behind him to support him.
Great pitchers are measured by wins and their contributions to the team. No hitters are nice but that's not how I judge a pitcher's success.

I'd like to see Matt Cain actually win some games first. In case you havent noticed he's only 2-8 this year. I know the Giants offense has been lackluster this year, but still 2-8 is pretty awful.

Matt Cain is without a doubt the most underrated starting pitcher in baseball. None of these guys above (besides inquisitive) know his true potential. He is very young, and he's a hell of a pitcher. He has a great chance of getting a no-no. He's proven he can go the distance, and he's pitched well against great teams. The guy is a stud...you can ask any expert.

I don't think he ever will - the great majority of pitchers never have a no-hitter - some hall of fame pitchers have never even thrown a two-hitter not to even mention a no hitter.

No-hitters are unpredictable events; entire seasons can be played without one, or (as was the case in 1990) with a surfeit (there were nine that year, at least as was counted at the time).

Chances are, he won't ever throw one. Roger Clemens has never thrown a no hitter, Pedro has never thrown one, Steve Carlton never threw one - just to name a few of the greats who never accomplished that feat. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Cain to throw a no-no.
