I work for a small co. and have exprnced. favoritsm and other issues in the workplace. I cant go to my human resources because she is also the office manager and h.r. person. The v.p. is no help because they are verrry close. What she says goes. I need to know what i can do. Labor law lawyers wont help because its doesnt fall under that kind of discrimination. Anyone have an answer?

Time to look for a new job. This is a perfect example of why unions are going to make a come-back.

There is very little you can do about favoritism, unless it is related to age, gender, race, national origin or religion. If you don't think you're getting a fair deal, ask for a performance review. This may help you establish a benchmark from which you can ask for more responsibilities or ask for a (merited) raise.

If you don't like the way you are being treated, however, there's not much you can legally do (other than starting to look for a new job).

First of all, how SMALL is this company.

while favoritism is not illegal, it can be considered illegal if it is perpetrated on a protected status such as age, sex or national origin to name a few.

HOWEVER, the EEOC and DOL regulations on the Federal level ONLY apply to companies with more than 15 employees within a 50 mile radius.

If your company has less than that number, you need to research your local laws to see if they can help you.

In a small company, that sounds like a fatal combination. Even if you are legally in the right, they can still make your life miserable if they don't like you. For the sake of your quality of life, I would start looking for a better job (maybe get extra training if necessary). The stress isn't worth it.

Dear friend, most of the American companies are like that. Join an union and get people to sign for it. Other than that you have no chance.
