I've had some serious financial problems, and my lease is up next month. (I moved in with someone else, so i won't be getting the deposit back on this place) I know I'm not going to have enough money to pay first months rent and a security deposit. Is there any sort of apartment you can get that dosen't require it?

Motels have long term rooms without the upfront cost. Or like you did this time move in with someone who already paid that and make payments to them for your half.

Its unlikely to find an apartment that doesn't require a security deposit. Try housing assistance or tax credit rentals. Typically they will have lower rents and deposits because they are government funded and they base the rent off a percentage of your income. Also negotiate. Many rentals will let you pay the deposit in installments. Show them that you have a good rental history or some other bargaining tool. Good luck.

Either throw her out or get a money order from her...AS you should have done in the first place...never take a personal check for a down payment or security deposit.

Such units are pretty rare, if not non-existent. Your best bet is to try to make an arrangement to provide the security deposit over a period of months, if you can find a landlord who will agree to that.

Dont look at apts. Look at homes for rent. They just want somebody in there. And you are dealing with a person that will listen to what you say.

I suggest renting a home not an apt.

If you have good credit you can often have the deposit waved. My wife and I have done that with our last two places.

We found them using the following free Web services:

http://www.craigslist.org

Good luck!
