I think most people dont see themselves for what they really are...many think they are better than what they are and a lot think they are worse than what they are...why is this the case? That would be inside the individuals mind, I would not say there is an answer that fits everyone...

I don't think it is fear. I think people just don't know who they really are inside so they adapt to what they think others will like, or not like. Then again, it is a difficult question. Do people fear facing who they truly are? Who "are" people to begin with? How could one possibly know if another person fears what they are inside? I don't fear myself, I just look for greater understanding- which I believe to be the case with most people.

Discrimination. There are people who have expressed their true self quite too much and feel a need to spread their personalities in other people, either by force or persuasion. Once you get in you are exposed to the person's ways. You are "accepted", convinced that their way is right, and in extreme cases kept from the outside world. It's hard to get out of this trap. Either they stay by threat or fear of losing their "acceptance".

Is it fear or ignorance? Some people just don't know, don't care.

They are either ugly inside and no one likes to look upon something ugly or they are so afraid of living up to what they would see if it is really beautiful inside.

They could have low self-esteem.
They might not like who they used to be and not realize that they can change.

Sometimes it seems easier to blame others for personal problems than it is to change your routine.
