Hi!
I am also living in California ( got married to an American back in December of 06 ) but not yet a citizen...takes forever!
So, i wasn't able to obtain Medical insurance for this pregnancy. The hospitals have medi-cal reps stationed there to assist pregnant women. Tell your gf to go to the hospital where she plans on delivering and speak with the rep. They will help her fill out the forms and send them in for her.
There should be no reason why she wouldn't get accepted for medi-cal - they will most likely even give it the baby for a year after he/she is born.
It's best to see a rep and have them help you fill out the forms, because they know what to ask for and help with if you are not an American citizen.
Good Luck and a little piece of advice, have her get on that right away... it took us almost 3 months to get our answer from medi-cal!!!
I also want to add that i'm not necessarily here illegally, but i don't have any documentation other then my Canadian passport - so no worries if she doesn't have proper paperwork, Medi-cal doesn't care about that.... pregnancy's are considered emergency's and they have to allow you to file your application. As long as you don't make over the alotted monthly household income you won't have any problems!

If she has any proof of identification and has the right to be in the U.S... she should be able to get medical assistance.. if she has a low enough income. She needs to go to the health department and get a free pregnancy test. Once she does this, they will instruct her on how to get prenatal care and give her the forms to apply for medical assistance or a discounted insurance through the state.

She may qualify for medi-cal. It's income based, and if she doesn't qualify for that she can apply for Healthy Families, which is a very low cost insurance for children and pregnant women.

Medicaid, Tell her to apply for welfare. Put the pride to the side and make sure you have a healthy baby. Also do you all have any (Free Clinics) or county hospitals. They can help get her some assistance.
