Wow theres so many great drummers. I love Ringo Starr from The Beatles, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, Keith Moon from The Who, Ian Paice of Deep Purple, Neil Pert from Rush etc. Don't really like Metallica but Lars Ulrich is good. I DO NOT LIKE SLIPKNOT AT ALL but my friend made me listen to the drums on it and Joey Jordison is pretty good. Theres so much to list. I think Nick Mason of Pink Floyd is under rated. Great drummer while Gilmour and Waters got the attention of the band. So many fabulous drummers I have left out.

O.K first let me say you have a right to your opinion but Tommy Aldridge over Neil Peart I can't disagree more.
not to take anything away from Aldridge because he is good
but peart is more of a percussionist then a Drummer.
As for straight out in your face rock drummer that title has to go to the late great John Henry Bonham

CHARLIE WATTS!

I prefer his straight-forward style of drumming and always prefer drummers with a four-piece kit. Never any excuse for all the extra hardware. (The lone exception being the late, great Keith Moon!) Not really into the prog-rock style bands but, for that type, it would be hard to beat Neil Pert. I also had a soft spot for the late Cozy Powell. Always thought he would have been the most logical replacement for Bonzo in Zep!
BTW, caught Steely Dan a few weeks ago. Whoever the guy was behind the kit is really good. Don Brewer, from GFR & Bob Seger, is one of the great overlooked & underrated rock drummers. Mike Shrieve, of the original Sananta band, is outstanding as well. (A bit more jazz-oriented.)

Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Pete Sandovol of Morbid Angel (by for the two greatest drummers ever to live; and that's coming from a person who's idols were Neil Peart, John Bonham and Tommy Aldridge) You should check them out. There solo's are amazing!

Not a Rush fan, but Neil Pert has to be the greatest drummer I've ever heard, the man has a doctorate in percussions.

An obvious tip of my hat to both John Bonham and Keith Moon, but my favourite has to be Topper Headon from the Clash. It is often hard to isolate specific instruments in the songs that The Clash's rhythm really shine, but that guy was a machine.
