Whenever I put my AC on, my car shakes. A friend of mine told me that it may be the pump, and that I should stop using it. Does anyone else have any idea what it could be, and how much it would cost to fix?

Get a tune up more likely the engine is not running at peak form, and the additional strain on the motor that is not running at best will show up under strain

There are a couple of situations that could cause that problem. The first was get a tune up. Although not a bad idea I believe that you have one of two problems or both. 1. That your step up idle speed module is not working.(it increases your idle speed a few hundred rpms to compensate for the power your a/c compressor is using) 2. That your compressor is starting to seize up and if you catch it early (in other words take it to a professional) it will cost you less to repair. Just a note of caution if you start to hear a squealing noise when the a/c is on it is a sure sign that your compressor is bad.

Your engine mounts (which are like shock absorbers for the engine) may be worn out and turning on the AC adds additional stress to the engine which will make the engine shake more noticeable.
