My baby boy lost his speech and lines things up, rocks and bangs head and stares at wheels on cars. He never responds to his name. We are starting Early Intervention therapy. Just wanted opinions on what you think causes autism. He did have a bad reaction to the MMR vaccine. I am considering not having any more vaccines for him. He is do again in September for vaccines and I might refuse them.

I think you have every right to be worried about further vaccines. The thing saying he already has it so why not get the vaccines, that is a really selfish thing for someone to say to you.
If he has had a bad reaction to a vaccine then I personally would not give that vaccine again.
If you look at tha Amish, they have never vaccinated and they also do not have autism within their families.
The cells of different animals are injected into our babies and is resulting in the changing of our genetic code as humans.
From what I know is that a child can be born with a predisposition to autism. There are a number of other neurotoxins in vaccines such as formaldehyde and aluminum. So a child that has a predisposition to autism gets injected with several vaccines that contain these neurotoxins resulting in neurological damage since their neurological system is already weakened. A lot of these kids shortly after getting vaccinated may get sick which their immune system cannot fight the illness properly because it has been temporarily weakened from the vaccines, thus resulting in further neurological damage. Only about half of the vaccines out there are really mercury free, the rest contain either the minimum allowed or trace amounts. Trace amounts shouldn't affect a person, but having 3 or 4 vaccines with trace amounts, and also 3 or 4 with the other neurotoxins I listed can overload the fragile developing brain causing some brain damage. Other factors can cause autism, since a child can have the predisposition a severe cold, sickness, disease and other severe things can cause that predisposition to turn into autism. I feel that people are wrong by saying that vaccines have nothing to do with autism. When a parent raises a child that is developing perfectly and within 24 to 72 hrs. after that child has been vaccinated starts to regress in development, i feel that there is a strong connection between vaccines and autism in that situation. Vaers, the fund set up for families with children that have severe adverse reactions to vaccines does not have enough money to pay these parents thats children have suffered from autism due to vaccines. Formaldihyde and aluminum are also known carcinogens. (Cancerous)
Remember, a predisposition is not a cause.

I think that Autism is a genetic disposition type disease.

Let me clarify, I think that someone would have to have the traits for getting autism, and although they may not show up with a lot of signs, they may still have it. Sometimes it naturally shows as time goes on, and sometimes things like the MMR push it over the edge and to go out of control haywire in a child that otherwise didn't show it.

I have two children that are border line for two different types of autism, neither one has had any vaccinations because we choose to not have them. I believe this was a good choice on my part because they may have been further "damaged" and had a harder road to follow because of the toxins that they put in vaccines. They have the "simmian" crease in their hands which is a secondary sign of autism(also of downs) and that they got in utero. So there had to be something there to start with?

Everyone will tell you their opinion, and no one really knows what is going on yet. All I can say is read up, and do what you feel is right for your family.

There are just as many theories out there suggesting what the causes could be as there are 'cures'. The thing to keep in mind is that this diagnosis doesn't have to mean a death sentence. You had him diagnosed early and that means so much for his future. The therapy you get for him now will ensure a more functional and independent future for him. Studies prove that the more intensive therapy you are able to provide for him early on (i.e., speech, occupational, behavioral, recreational, music, etc, etc) the better both he and you will learn to bring out the most in him and help him to compensate. Many people say their children were 'cured' of Autism and I personally don't believe that's possible. I am a speech therapist and with the spectrum of Autism being so wide and all encompassing I think children can progress to higher forms of it with therapy and stimulation. Good luck - I know you will do whatever it takes to help your child get the the services he needs.

Best of luck to you - I know you are facing a tough road. I have read a lot on autism, since I have a 3 1/2 month old boy and a high school friend whose son has autism.

I believe very strongly that there is both a genetic and an environmental component to the condition. Families with one autistic child are much more likely to have another. It is also much more prevalent in boys than it is in girls, also supporting the genetics theory. The consensus is that there is an environmental trigger that makes autism "come out" in those with a genetic predisposition. But it seems that no one can agree on what the trigger is.

Every study I have read refutes the autism-vaccination link. I personally do not believe it is the vaccines. Obviously you as the parent must do what you think is best, but, if it were me, I would continue with the vaccines.

There is more and more being learned about autism every day. You are lucky to have access to Early Intervention therapies. My friend had that for her son - he is actually going to enter "mainstream" kindergarten on time as a result!

If you son has already been diagnosed with autism, why are you afraid of the vaccines now? The vaccines will not cause the autism to get worse.

Continue your EI therapy. Also, I can give you some other options of therapy if your interested. I am a behavior therapist at a school for children with autism. I have seen amazing results.

The video studies done by the Japanese indicate that virtually all cases of autism were present at birth or shortly thereafter. It is now believed to occur prenatally. Given the widespread increase of this problem, it is likely environmental. Contrary to what the other poster said, it does have a possible genetic predisposition in some cases. My cousin's ex-GF has 3 autistic children (3 different fathers), 2 of whom had no vaccinations until school age.

I dont think there is one cause, I think vaccines when sick can make it worse, but it is always there, at least dormant. I worked with Autistic children forever and so many parents really do believe that the MMR is a contributing factor. A lot of times though it cant be avoided !

I have an autistic child, and I don't believe that vaccines caused it. He showed autistic traits before he was a yr old, well before the MMR vaccine. You need to find a support group and connect with other parents. You have a long road ahead of you, but its always better whe kids are diagnosed early!! I believe autism is caused by vaccines. I have seen perfectly healthy children have the MMR vaccine and get really high fevers afterwards and regress suddenly to the point where they don't respond to their own name. I haven't given any of my children vaccines and I have a 3 yr. old, 2 yr. old, and 1 yr. old. and none of them have ever been sick or even needed medication of any kind. Vaccines poison our kids and compromise their immune system. Do your baby a favor and keep those vaccines away from him. The only two states that require them are WV and Mississippi so no one can force you to have them and your child will have the same rights as anyone else.
