Why is it, that they still refer to themselves as "Music Television" when music is the LAST thing they play anymore? It's all reality shows aimed at teenagers? Why is that? I guess this is more of a rant than a question but that really chaps my *ss.

This kicks ***. Wow, I wasn't expecting a response to this one. I'm glad other people noticed, too. I try and watch MTV2, especially on Saturday night. Headbanger's Ball is on....then it's VH1 classic for Metal Mania. And that's about all the good music there is.... Corporate monopolies suck. Someone mentioned stop watching and start bitching? Would be nice if someone listened. Money drives the programming, not the people who watch, unfortunately. The same 5 corporations own the media.

because its a business, and the businessmen see more profit in 'reality' tv than music videos. and when they do show music videos in the morning, they rerun the same ten over and over
they could show all music videos and performances, that would be cool, they could gop on for a long time without ever having to repeat if they take old stuff like queens bohemian rhapsody and bands from independent labels. then they could show like music related movies at night, like spinal tap or zeppelins song remains the same
mtv is so ******, it always has been, they want you to listen to big box music ever since the 80s
but vh1 is the same now too, their owned by mtv- a ******* monopoly

Usually, a television program will not change their name. Just like many other things, television has evolved. Right now, many people are into reality TV, so that's what the stations are playing. Other stations, such as MTV2 and VH1 have more music that MTV. For those pure rockers, there's Fuse, total rock!!!! It has all shows that are associtated with music and are music.

I know exactly how you feel. The only time they play videos in late at night and hella early in the morning, but wait there is TRL. But thats not that great. I've been trying to check out MTV2 and MTV3 and they are so much better. MTV2 has some shows but some countdowns. MTV3 is for Latin music and its great b/c they play all kinds of music, all day. We should start a petition or something.

It really chaps my *ss, too! It's absurd that a channel called MUSIC Television plays very little music. They could have at least changed their name to RTV, or something... Then MTV2 could be MTV! So then it would be more like the channel "moved". I think that would put a lot of minds at ease.

Even VH1 Classic isn't all music videos. They should make a channel just for music videos (especially those that they'd show on VH1 Classic)

They still call it music television because music videos are what started MTV in the first place. If you get up early enough you can still see music videos. In fact that is what I watch in the mornings. I don't like a lot of MTV's reality shows because they always have gay people on them.

I been wondering that to. Its no longer musical television its reality television. I notice they show they same music videos every hour.

That is so true! I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees that. 'Music Television' yet all they seem to air are "reality" shows with stuck up teenagers.

because they know that since before they had only music, and teenagers love music, they decided to make more money by putting in some tv shows for them to get more money.
i know its pointless to call it MTV.
i was asking that question since forever and i think my anwer is alright =)
and to be honest the reality shows arent reality lol.
teenagers watch alot of tv..
so i think.. because i happen to be one XD

Eh, probably because back when they started, they actually DID play music but as they evolved, the music started disappearing and the reality started appearing.. and whoosh! They had no music. But they probably just wanted to keep their name..
