The Girl Who Stopped Swimming by Joshilyn Jackson
Jackson writes great stories all set in the deep south (Georgia, Alabama, etc.). She also wrote Gods in Alabama (her debut) which has gotten great reviews.
Here's a review I found for The Girl Who Stopped Swimming
- In The Girl Who Stopped Swimming, Joshilyn Jackson tells a mysterious, mournful story, and adds to what is shaping up as her great strength as a novelist: a deep, empathetic understanding of the impoverished (in both the earthly and in spirit), and a genius for unveiling the complexities of the South. Even in a page-turner like this, where the 'who' and the 'how' compel the book and fascinate the reader, she never fails to be humane, or to turn a kind eye toward every condition."

An excellent book for women is Eat, Pray, Love By Elizabeth Gilbert. It might be over your page limit, but well worth the reading time. I also reccomend:
The Red Tent By Anita Diamant-It's an excellent book based on a bible story. Don't let that throw you off, though. It's got all the elements you're looking for, trust me.

Well, if you like animals, you should try Watership Down. It's about rabbits. Once you read it, you'll never look at rabbits the same. It's one of my favorites and I'm the only guy I know who has actually read it, all the rest are girls. >_>
Alternatively, I've heard Gossip Girl is really good. You might try that.

Well..I know a a few good books, but those would only be for a regular girl. You being a city girl and all...well, I don't have anything that would fulfill your intellectual needs.

Oh, well it really depends on the style of writing your into...I know that sounds dumb, but it actually matters a lot. I'd suggest going to Border's and just, looking around. It sounds like sucky advice, but if you don't know what you're looking for...look around! :)
