Mother played piano after we could afford one. Mostly popular classics or musical comedy. I had a broken gramophone I turned with my finger, one 78 rpm jazz record and one Debussy (all from the dump). And we listened to classics on radio. After WW2 we got radiogram and swags of classical records, and I discovered Stravinsky, Mousorgski, and much much more. I adore music but it makes me weep!

I grew up in a musical family but my parents were classical only types while I loved rock n roll - it was a constant battle.
These days I like some classical music - especially piano music (Beethoven, Chopin) and some of the darker symphonic stuff (Bartok, Shostakovich) but I also listen to Jazz, Blues, Rock and just about anything else I can get my ears into...
...but I still can't stomach opera (I know I know its supposed to be good music - but too much of a good thing...)

My dad used to play Dire Straits - Love over Gold, and Paul Simon - Graceland a LOT. I still like both albums very much.
My mom is more into classical music, especially Monteverdi. I can't stand that stuff: I like classical instrumental music, but arias get on my nerves.

Romantic show tunes, including movie soundtrack albums. I remember loving the song "True Love" by Grace Kelly and either Bing Crosby or someone of that ilk from the movie "High Society." It was one of the few 45 rpm records my mother had bought. And I practically wore out the soundtrack albums for "South Pacific" and "The King and I."
Did I tell you I'm 60 years old?

Dad listened to oldies and rock, Mom listened to classical and jazz, so I pretty much listen to everything (limited country and no foreign languages, but other than that, everything)

My parents listened to EVERYTHING (ah, well except for country)! Classical, rock n' roll, show tunes, rag time, jazz, folk music, bag pipe music, real old stuff, on and one. . . . .and I now listen to everything, and even sometimes, country (shhh, don't tell Mum and Da)
