Height doesn't matter, sorry to break it to you. If you don't have the skills and thick skin (rhetorically speaking) then it isnt a right game for you. I have played basketball for more than twelve years of my life. When i personally quit, it was because that all i knew how to do and i ended up coaching more than playing... long story. But there are two things that personally bugged me: quitters (people that cannot handle the whole game - even the brutality) and people who weren't willing to learn. Personally, if you really want to play, start out as an assitant on one of the teams to the coach, watch what people do, plays, move, just observe. Prove that you want to be a part of the team. Even if it mean not playing in games. Go to all the practices. Come up with your own plays and stay in shape. Go down to a local park and play with whoever is down there. Play rough with the guys, and get used to being punch and in some cases learn to punch back. Prove to the team that you want to be there and be "mean" right back. Remember, while on the court some people turn into the biggest b!*#h in the world, but once the uniform is off, its a whole different world. Thats my opinion. Oh... if you think height is a factor, i'm 6'2" and i would pick the person that is the best for the team regardless of height or size.... I have had point guard slide in between people's legs.

I'd have to see how you played first. You can't give someone a job just because they fit the physical description.
However, if you showed hustle, and a bit of talent, I would definitely pick you. I'd rather have someone who is decent in skills, and wants to play than somebody who is great, but isn't giving the best effort.

With your height I'd say you have a decent chance if you are willing to work hard for it. Even if you may not have the skills your teammates have, if you can contribute on rebounds and defense any coach will find use for you. I say go for it. Even if people are mean to you, keep on working at it and you'll succeed.
