I took the class in the regular semester and it wasn't a hard class. From what I remember, I think we did about 5 different speeches including one about ourselves, a demonstration on the subject of our choice, and a debate against another student. I forget what the others were.

I think you should be fine in the summer, especially since the teacher is nice and is willing to help students pass the class. Um, one question though- do you get nervous in front of groups? If you do, it may be a little harder for you because you do get graded on how well you present yourself up there and how organized/prepared you are when you speak. My advice to you would be to really know your speech (the whole subject) so you can speak more freely and feel comfortable with it. You don't want to memorize your speeches because a lot of times, people who do that will get nervous and end up forgetting parts of it. It can just ruin everything. So, really know your speech topic and the different parts you included in your speech. If you can take notes or your speech up there while you present it, don't read off of it but just use it as a guideline so you don't leave important parts out. That's how I got an A in the class. :) You could easily do it too.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to include- be sure to read your textbook and look at examples they give you because they can often help you create a better speech. Good luck!

Yes, I have taken public speaking. I think it's an excellent idea for everyone, since it teaches you how to make a statement, which will help you interview for a job, present an idea at work, convince the bank to give you a loan, and tell the doctor how you expect to be treated.
Taking it during the summer will mean a smaller class so your nerves talking in front of a group should be calmer.
And please, for all our sakes, learn grammar. "Have you ever took...." sounds ignorant. It's "Have you ever taken..."

I had a professor who was a miserable human being, and spread it around. No matter when you take this course, find a good teacher. Someone who is enjoying their life - it will make YOUR life much easier.

Talk slow, make good eye contact, and Good luck!
