Several things could cause this. The one that is most likely is a defective high / low beam switch. It could also be a broken ground wire in your headlight wiring harness but this is much less likely.

I assume that you checked the bulbs and they are good?

If you don't have high or low beam headlights I would suspect the light switch was faulty. Those little flip type switches have a tendency to burn up over time, there is a lot of amperage flowing throw them and they just give out. Its easy to get to that switch, check for melted wires and burned spots on the wire harness connection. Make sure power is getting to the switch and leaving the switch for the headlights, a wiring diagram is very helpful.

If that fails then I would start by checking the bulbs, if they are good then I'd use a test light and check for power at the bulb sockets and work my way back. If you have power at the sockets I would suspect a bad ground connection. If you dont' have power at the sockets I'd look at the dimmer switch under the dash on the steering column. Check and see if you have power reaching the switch and power leaving the switch in both the high and low beam position. The switch maybe faulty and not letting power out to the headlights in either position. Or it could need adjusted.

if it has daytime running light the diode is very common, if your sitting in the drivers seat it would be at your right knee cap on the back side of the dash cover,GET A FLASHLIGHT if you lay on the floor and look up you will see a little box that looks like the end of an amps air cool fins. its about 2 inches by 4 inches. too remove it you need to bend the two metal tabs to line up with the slide on the diode and it will slide down, a chevy dealer should have a new one in stock

Did you check the fuse? Fuses can fail due to vibration etc. Did the lights just go out or did they not come one when you wanted? If they "Just went out" did you hit a bump or some other such thing?

On this type of problem I usually try the 'KISS" principal.

Generally means look for the simple stuff first. Although I would think it rare, it is possible that both bulbs decided to burn out at the same time.

Sounds like the headlamp dimmer switch is shorted. This switch is on the left side of the steering shaft under the dash. You should have this checked by a repair shop sence the headlamps are a safety problem.Best of luck.
