I know i want to get married some day.. but how would it work. Just thinking about it makes me go crazy. Do I pop the question or does my bf? Do I buy a ring? Does it have to be like a Diamond ring? What kind of clothes do we wear? Would one wear black and one wear white? So many questions..

Has Anyone here been to a gay wedding before? If so what was it like?

What is wrong with all these ignorant people who are saying you can't get married in the US? For starters you can get married in Massachuset but I'm sure you already know that. You can also have a Civil Union which is in many ways like a marriage in most states. I have been to a couple of gay weddings they were both different. One was a casual out side wedding and the couple both wore casual outdoor attire. The other was more formal and both women wore wedding dresses. My wife and I have not had an actual ceremony yet but we plan to renew our vows and have a real ceremony so our family can see us get married. We will probably wear semi-casual outfits since I'm not much of a dress person. I have a male wedding band because diamonds aren't my style and would get in the way for me at work (I'm a massage Therapist) It's a very special ring because it actually use to be her dad's ring he died several years before we were together and she gave it to me as a symbol of our love. She has a traditional diamond wedding ring that I bought for her and when we have our ceremony I am going to get it engraved for her. I have two male friends who are married they both have male wedding bands. As far as who should pop the question it doesn't matter as long as one of you does and you are both ready. If you have more questions feel free to e-mail me. I think Gay marriage ,just like any other marriage is a wonderful and beautiful thing. Good luck to you and your boyfriend I wish you the best.

HOLY COW...Don't stress so much!!!

Are you actually thinking about getting married? Are you even seeing anyone at the moment?

If not...chill.

If so...well, let it come naturally.
If you WANT to "pop the question" to your b/f go for it!!
Um, since you two are guys, and engagement ring isn't necessary...
But...you might want to discuss this kind of stuff with your b/f before going too much further.

Also...DO NOT LISTEN TO ASHLEE

Her information is way off.

Although the US Federal Government does not recognize same-sex marriages, this does NOT make them Illegal.

The state of Mass. actually DOES have LEGAL same-sex marriages.
The states of Conn., Vermont, New Jersey and New Hampshire have Legally recognized Civil Unions.

But Legal RECOGNITION or not...this does not by any stretch of the imagination make same-sex CEREMONIES illegal!
As long as you can find a pastor or person of authority whom you trust...you can have a Ceremony in ANY state.
You just can't get a marriage license in any other state but Mass.

I have been to several gay weddings.

The male/male wedding was beautiful.
The entire wedding was actually very traditional.
Both wore traditional black tuxedos.
It was performed by a lesbian minister in the flower bedecked backyard of one of one of the grooms' parents home.
They had white silk rolled down the aisle, between the seating, to walk on.
There were flowers and organza bows on the backs of every guest chair and on the sides of each aisle end guest chair.
They exchanged traditional gold wedding bands during the ceremony.
They had a 5 tiered traditional wedding cake with two grooms on top.
It was lovely and 7 years later they are still happily "married" and more in love than they were on that special day.

Okay this might not help since this is a TV show but I saw a wedding between two men on WIll & Grace and it looked like any ordinary wedding.
I wouldn't go with the dimond ring but I would get a nice wedding band.
If you feel like you are ready you ask your BF to marry you.

Good luck

Hey, My gf and I are talking about getting married and these are the same questions we asked each other. Who proposes, we haven't solved that one yet. Neither of us wanted an engagement ring, but she wants a diamond pendent once we are engaged. I'm not comfortable in a dress so I would be in a suite or non-traditional tux. She's not sure she wants to wear a dress, so she will think about what she wants to wear. I would suggest talking w/ your bf about what he would want. It will be what you two want. We have the added excitement of me being Christian and her being Jewish, so there will be interfaith traditions also. We discussed if we needed to ask each others parents about getting married, neither of us felt it was necessary. Boy I'm getting long winded...good luck...good for you to think about what you want.

It's what you want it to be, just like any straight couples wedding.

When I get married, it's going to be a simple event with a few good friends and family.

Oh and I've never been by the way. But good luck.
