NO NO NO... that could mess baby's stomach up... Call your pediatrician again tell them it's serious .... if you're breastfeeding, just keep on feeding as frequently as possible, breastmilk, especially the early colostrum is the best thing

Don't use the Karo syrup. There's no evidence that it works, and it could be harmful.
Try this instead:
Quick fix: take her temperature rectally, this should be enough to stimulate her to go.
If it doesn't, she really needs to be seen by the doctor to rule out a bowel obstructon.
Long term fix:
If she's breastfed, watch what you're eating. Things that could constipate you, can constipate her.
If she's bottlefed, you can give her 1/4 oz of juice - either prune, apple, grape, pear, or cherry, once a day. This should get things moving. More than that can cause diarrhea.
DO NOT give plain water, or tea.... Rubbing her tummy doesn't really help things along either - but it could be comforting.

First I would wonder what caused her constipation in the first place maybe the Constancy of water versus formula is keeping her this way. 2nd if the Dr. advised this I would follow his advise however I have never heard of anyone giving Kyro Syrup to such a small infant I have always used just an once of baby apple juice which has done the trick.

I am a mother of three kids, and i have never heard of giving karo syrup to any one for constipation, it seems really odd to me that a week old baby would be constipated. What kind of formula are you feeding your baby, are you breast feeding ?These are question you need to think about !! If your babies stool is really hard, maybe you should take your infant to a emergency room and let a doctor do an examination, it would be best for a doctor tosee your baby, rather than give you info on the phone. i wouldnt recommend any otc laxatives for a week old baby. Seek professional help for your baby,s constipation, thats my opinion, Best Wishes

Hi, I would def. not give baby Kyro syrup that may be upsetting her tummy more..i would listen to the doc and also keep feeding her..weather it's breast milk or formula..she needs fluids that is why she's constipated..plus you can also try massaging her little tummy in a circle direction..
Don't try any home remedies..she is just way to young and you don't know what she's allergic to yet.
Good luck.
If she is ONLY a week old...you can't give her ANYTHING besides your breastmilk or formula...no water def. no juices....NOTHING...go to your local WIC office they can help you.

Further to previous answers - juice IS good, and not just as a medicine. Peach, pear, prune (of course) - whatever she's prepared to drink.
If she's really struggling to do a doodle, you won't cause any harm by giving an infant-size glycerin suppository (or half of one), or slipping a fingerful of liquid soap in there

OH HOLY MOTHER OF GOD...
PLease IGNORE the guy who said to give her aspirin and honey...ALL THAT WILL DO IS GIVE HER BOTULISM AND INTERNAL BLEEDING!!
Geez, your baby is a week old. You shouldn't be giving her anything but breastmilk.
If you had the sense to talk to the doctor about it...have the sense to listen to what he advises...
What is "very hard" ?
Like pudding?
Like clay?
Like gravel?
It's very very very rare that an infant that is less than a month old would have "constipation".
Speak to your pediatrician again, and please DO NOT experiment with home remedies, OTC remedies or anything any crackpots on here advise you to do.
Babies are very very delicate...talk to the doctor, follow his directions.
I'm guessing that you poor little thing is being fed formula...talk to the doc about switching her to another one. That is what is most likely causing the problem.

My DD had the same problem when she was born. After 4 months of hell, we figured out she was having a hard time with her formula.
Went and bought the Nutramigen and she was like a new child! No more screaming and crying and no more constipation!

Actually the light kayro syrup works better. Give about two or three table spoons in a bottle of apple juice. If that doesn't work they have infant laxitives in walmart and most drug stores. They say for babies 6months and up. My mother is a nurse and said that whatever the does is for a 6 month old for a 3 month old just give them half of that. I don't know how old your baby is but this is in my experience. If I was you I wouldn't want my baby to suffer either.

I've heard it works from a few people. But when I used it for my baby, it did not seem to help at all. Perhaps I didn't use the right amount or something. I'm not sure. It may just be another old wives tale.
