I am fourteen years old and love to write all kinds of stories but I don't like poetry. I want to get a head start on a possible future career and I really need to know how to start once I already have a novel or something written. I know that there are places I can send my work but I am truly afraid that they won't read it and it will sit on a pile of others for a really long time. I need something where I can send it and get it edited or published in a maximum span of three months or so. I really need suggestions and appreciate any answers that you can give me. Thank you.

Pick up a copy of The Writer's Market. That will give you a lot of excellent leads on places to submit your work to. Another idea is self-publishing through someplace like Lulu Press.

You're in excellent company. Ally Sheedy published She Was Nice To Mice when she was 12 years old. Christopher Paolini was 15 when Eragon was first published. And when S.E. Hinton was 17, her first book, The Outsiders, was published.

I love to see teenagers writing! Keep it up!

I was 11 when I got my first publication, It was a short story, and I have been writing ever since. Poetry is incredibly easy to get into because it is open to interpretation. So instead I would get a few magazines like the Writers Digest and find a competition you like. Or if you just want to work on something in your own time and want to know how to publish it, get a Writers Market2008. This book will tell you how and who to send your work to.However, 3 months is not going to happen! Patients child, and don't be afraid of rejection, just listen to what they say. But it is great to know that we still have a generation out there that loves writing. I was beginning to think we were a dying bread.
Best of Luck

I think you could be an author at 14 y.o.
Go to the library and get a copy of the Writer's Market. It is book that lists all the publishers. It is separated in sections for book and magazines. And by subject. For example, pet magazines, or science fiction books.
Really read these entries and go to their websites and make sure that your writing is something they would publish.
There are also books about writing query letters. These letters help get the attention of the publisher.
Good luck, dear.

As someone who has researched getting my own book published for a couple years now, I doubt you'll find that. Most places say they take at least four months just to read your proposal, usually more like six to eight. The only thing that might work for what you're decribing is a place that *you* pay to publish it, which is essentially useless. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but getting published takes time and work and even then, it can get pretty frustrating.

hmm i like 2 no that 2. i dont think u can get around the book sitting there. also, i hate 2 burst ur bubble, but 1 out of 100 books get published, so theres a good chance it wont happen.

but, also, J.K. Rowling had to go to several publishing companies before the book got off the ground...little did anybody know how far it wuld take off, so u just have to submit to look around

i suggest u submit ur story/novel to a lotta contests, and get noticed. then u can start from there

I don't think you will find anything but pay publishing companies in that time frame. You might want to try getting some contacts at events. For instance, Interlochen Fine Arts Academy has a summer writing workshop. You can find that online. Anyway, you might be able to meet some people at an event like that and improve your writing in the process.

You do not have control over the length of time it will take to get edited or published. It may take years and not 3 months.

ask a teacher. most teachers know good places to get books published and sometimes they send their class' work so it can be published into a book. so ask a teacher, especially your language arts teacher or english teacher.

if you don't want to or school's out try checking out some literary magazines at the library. they are always posting wanted ads for young people just like you! good luck!
