I have a double glazed door with glass (You know the white ones) and there is a black rubber seal around the panels..i just noticed the top part of the door had the black seal hanging out like someone used a crow bar to pull some of the seal out (perhaps trying to pull a panel out of the door?) i want to know if its something a burgaler would use? or it just happened for no reason. anyway im staying in and equiped with a gun to murder them if i hear anyone near my door be it night or day. id spend my life in prison for it. its either me, my stuff, or them, and i know which one its gonna be.

And on the hinge side, not the door handle side.

I doubt it. A burglar wouldn't do that. With a crowbar they would go for the border of the door to get it out of the frame or break the lock.
Removing a panel is too complicated and time consuming.
Did you check if the rubber is too dry? could it fall by itself?

Laura C. Doesn't know anything about the US.. Possibly, I would file a police report and take pictures.. Just in case. If it's a sliding glass door install a charlie bar.. .It's a bar that's mounted inside the door and visible to thieves... It folds down and locks the sliding mechanism and is very effective. For a temporary fix you can put a piece of 2x4 along the bottom track and the door cannot be slid open.. However, I would get the Charlie Bar installed... If that is the type of door you have.. If it's just a regular door.. Is that the weakest point of entry? Look at the stike plate, where the lock is and see if that has been messed with.. If it has you might want to call a locksmith and have it re-enforced. Usually, that's the weakest point of entry.. Getting a gun however isn't a good solution. More people (usually the person holding the gun ) are the one's hurt/killed. Just use caution and remember to lock all your doors and windows at night.. Good luck and be well.

hey don't jump into conclusions right away that someone tried to force their way inside your apartment or house because a rubber seal in your door was broken. i suggest that you weight things first. there might have been a defect on your door that cause it or either your hunch is right.

secure a phone with you inside and call the cops if you feel something is definitely wrong.

and about you shooting the crooks and going to jail is definitely a far cry, for you can always say that you shot them because its only self defense... always put your safety first! never mind about your stuffs in a sudden death situation, you must always think about your safety first.

Forget the gun (unless you're in the USA - as that is normal!). Relax, it takes some doing to crowbar through double glazing - also it may be paranoia. Calm down and have a cup of cocoa (or swift whiskey) and sleep like a baby.

No you are not paranoid! I have the dbl glazed wnds too, someone tried to break into my house, they tried to pry the windows off with a screwdriver or something ,you could see it in the corners if the windows in the back of my house, they also cracked one of the windows doing it. in the end the buggers took the wood off the window over the AC unit and crawled over the top of it. they got all my jewelery.
I hope the die in a pool of their own vomit from an OD off the dope they bought with my stuff! Bitter..... NO......

Someone may have tried to break in, contact non-emergency number for the authorities just to notify them of activity in the area. If someone does break in, wait for them to get inside before you shoot them, that should take care of all the legalities on your side. If you shoot them while they're still outside it might be a problem, because it could be a kid picking up a baseball out of your bushes or something.

dont panic. i'd say the door held, and the burglar was defeated.

maybe it wasnt a burglar. once, i was in my house, then i heard this noise upstairs, like somebody was moving after hearing me come in. then i heard it again. i ran out the house and came back with a neighbour and we went upstairs in the dark as the landing light was out, armed with a broom.

but it was a crow that had come down the chimney! the ****er had shat on my books and bed etc, as well.

the crow writes to me from prison most weeks, so im glad i didnt kill it.

so using your gun could cost you a friend.

i need to lie down now.

te answer is, fear attracs the act and you must be a victom wanting attention. the truth will set you free. be a preditor like the other sub humans and your worries will fade away with the criminals.
and dont lock your door next time!
