Flag waving is enough to label you as someone that is clueless.

If all you are looking for is superficial recognition then typical RedsStater Flag Waving is perfect.

Patriot meaning from the father or source got turned around in America. Now if you Support Constitutional Ideology you are called a traitor. While a Chinese Yellow Ribbon on a SUV symbolizes you are a Gas Guzzling enemy of the Earth a loyal subject of Bush.

Go Team Bush Go

Patriotism involves a lot more than waving a flag. It involves standing up for the values and ideals that this country was founded on. It involves questioning the actions of your government when you feel that those actions are not in the best interest of your country. It involves serving your country, not only or isolated to military service, but service to your community through supporting those that are perpetuating what you believe to be the way you think things should be.

Will I always agree with you on your stance, or opinion on a subject, no. But I will respect your ideas and the fact that you have the patriotism in you to care about the idea in the first place.

Patriotism is honoring and respecting the symbols of our great nation and honoring those that have sacrificed so much to give us the freedoms, rights and liberties that we, as citizens enjoy.

Patriotism is defending our sovereignty, our laws and our culture.

I could go on, and on, but you get the jest!

Waving a flag is next to meaningless and it is sad that this country believes that is a genuine demonstration of patriotism. My dad served this country in the US air force for 30 years, without regard for the person serving as President or the popularity of the conflict in which the military was involved. He did not join the military to reduce his college costs. He is patriotic...without question.

Despite the attacks upon their loyality, those who challenge the Administration's exercise of power are patriots for demanding that the govt not abuse its power. Believing in the power and appropriatness of the Constitution, even when it is not the easiest thing to do to follow the constitution is patriotic...without question.

I will even say that serving as a legislature, executive, or judicial official, no matter who well or badly the job is done, is patriotic. So despite what folks might think, i believe W and Cheney are patriotic...without question.

There is no patriotism in giving lame excuses for why you can't serve on jury duty, even if you have a "support our troops" bumper sticker. There is no patriotism in taking election day off, but not voting becuase "they are all the same." There is no patriotism in demonizing the "other side" rather than just acknowledging that there is a difference in opinion as to the approach...

Fly your flags, but learn what the country was built on...the Constitution. Learn what the document means...and play your part.

No, it's service to your fellow citizens. That service can be accomplished by voting, jury duty, volunteer work, Military service, Police work, Emergency Service work, etc. It also includes remembrance for sacrifices past and present that other members of your society have given so that you may partake in the freedoms that they so gallantly died for. Patriotism is standing up for right, and goodness but more importantly standing against wrong, so dissent is also Patriotic.

We sometimes forget the dissent part, and because people don't believe in what we do, we call them unpatriotic, when in fact they are as much of a patriot as those boys that threw the tea into Boston Harbor.

A true Patriot is not afraid of dissent, he embraces it, because it is the test of the moral fabric that the Flag represents.

Patriotism, to me, isn't an act.

It's a thought, a feeling. It's not waving a flag because it's the fourth of july, it's waving a flag because it's the 11th of October and you feel so good about being an Americam (or from any other country) and want to show that you love your country.

I understand that my grandfathers / forefathers fought for my right to speak my mind when I see a wrong being done to MY country, my family or to myself. I understand that regardless their office, MY government works “For the people”. I understand that when our government officials stop working on behalf of the American people, I have an obligation to take a stand.

No – Flag waving is not enough at all. Today it is a piece of cloth that in most cases, has been “Made in China”

Patriotism is doing your best to live up to your country's ideals, not enabling its worst behavior. The days of "my country right or wrong" are over.
