My garbage disposal smells bad. I have tried grinding a lemon with ice in there. Also, vinegar.

Bleach might be a good solution, but be careful if you have a septic system. Septic systems rely on bacteria to break wase down. If too much bleach enters the system, you will kill too much of the bacteria.

You could also try dumping baking soda into the garbage disposal.

Good luck

On a regular basis - several times a week, I fill up the sink with hot, very soapy, water and I run the disposal. If you still have a smell, pour a box of baking soda in it and leave it over night, rinsing in the morning. You may want to do this about once a month.

You may have to disassemble the unit to clean first. Some come with an offset allen wrench to do this.

Also, some fill the sink with very hot water and a generous amount of Dawn (or other degreasing) dishwashing liquid. Pull the stopper and run the disposal.

You can also purchase a foaming cleaner designed for this purpose. Walmart sometimes sells.

I was going to recommend exactly what you have done, it maybe to your best bet to shell out 50 bucks or so and have a plumber snake your sink pipes, you might try running some liquid plumber down it and let it set.
