Ok... so now that we know what kind of fish.... Blue Gouramis can exhibit aggressive behaviour during spawning.

This link tells you how to tell if it is a male or female. In my experience with the gouramis that I had if it is a male and has no females it was aggressive... so we got it another female. There should be more females than males with gouramis.
I would also try calling whoever you buy your fish from and asking them. If you buy from a chain store though I would look up a store who only deals with fish and ask them for suggestions. Local fish stores are usually very helpful. The gourami that we had that was aggressive finally chilled out after adding the female.
Anyway... I really hope this helped!! Good Luck!

You may be able to get away with a single female convict in a 20 gallon long if its very well filtered and water changes are done often. If you want a fish that eats other fish then maybe a bichir would be ok, though it would probably be wayyy happier in a 55 gallon. If I were you I wouldn't even consider a carnivorous fish unless I had at least a 40 gallon tank.

What the fish would be useful, but chances are its not going to change much.

You can try removing the fish for an hour or so and re-arrange the tank so it believes its entering a new home, and see if that will change it however, i think the other fish will have already be conditioned to get out of its way so its likely to start all over again. So you have to make a choice him or the other 7 fish.

Does your tank have hiding places?
consider buying a few big rocks at your petstore.

Also, i had sort of a simpilar circumstance where 1 fish was bullying the others. I tried changing around the decorations to make the fish think they were in a different environement. It worked. They all went seperate ways and stopped harassing each other.

We need more information. You didn't tell us what types of other fish you have in the tank. You also didn't say if their are any plants or caves for the fish to hide in. Even with semi aggressive fish their are some types that are more aggressive than other. Please give use more information so we can help you better.

Call a good Pet Store you trust and talk with the Fish Department Associates about this as soon as possible. You may wake up tomorrow with the aggressive fish living and the others either mangled, beaten up or dead from the aggressive fish attacking them. IT IS NOT GOOD TO HAVE A TOO AGGRESSIVE FISH IN THE TANK with the other fish. PLEASE DO THIS ASAP!!!

you might as well separate them into different tanks if you want to make sure that they can live longer rather than let them fight and kill each other. You might want to put them in separate bowls. As for those with the same breed, you can put them in a tank.

try adding a few 3" or 4" terra cotta pots from a craft store to act as caves. Maybe he needs some territory.

Who ever really said they would break out a harpoon is mentally retarded. I would say depending on size and sp of fish you should definatly get a bigger tank asap.

I think a listing of the species of fish you have is going to be needed to give you any good advice. Please give a follow up by species, not just like african cichilds. The more details you can give, the better advice can be given.
