On his show, Maher said the follwing:

"But I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow.

{...}

I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact."

He did not wish death upon Cheney, he simply said that fewer people would die if Cheney were dead.

Just for the record, Maher is a combination of Libertarian and liberal.

Coulter's first comment about Edwards:

“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘*****t,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

Followed by:

"If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

Which is worse?

My feeling is that Coulter's passive aggressive "I can't call you a ****** but you are one" and "next time I'll just wish you were killed by terrorists" is far worse than Maher just saying that fewer people would die if Cheney were dead.

There's a bit of irony here; Coulter, a political opinion commentator, was making a failed attempt at humor. Bill Maher, a political comedian, was simply commenting on his own opinion. (I saw the show when it aired live). Bill never said he WISHED Cheney had gotten killed. Just commented on the if possibility.

Personally, I wasn't offended by Coulter's "other f-word" comment but realize that there exist a segment of the population that would be. Both statements need to be examined in the context in which they were delivered and not blown out of proportion.

Btw, did you see Coulter squirming in her chair? Kudos to Elizabeth Edwards!

Maher is a comedian who is generally insightful, and pretty damned funny.

Coulter is a sociopath who needs to continually raise the level of outrage on her comments in order to get noticed, and sell some books. She needs the shock value of her comments because she's got nothing else.

Also with those long hands and adams apple she looks like a transvestite.

Both comments are repugnant and play to the lowest common denominator of politics. But both Coulter and Maher are laughing all the way to the bank.

Obviously, Coulterguist is one of Satan's many disguises.
Explaining the adams apple.

Bill Maher isn't intentionally evil. Coutlerguist gets off on evil.

This is why I do not pay attention to either. The only way the get attention is when they say these outrageous remarks. They can not get attention for making acurate and intelligent remarks so they basically resort to being the political versions of Howard Stern. They are nothing more than Shock jocks.

Maher and Coulter are both in it for the money and nothing more. Both comment are equally foul and distasteful.

Both are out of line, but Coulter is just doing it to be nasty as she can't think of an intelligent way to discuss real issues.

Well, that's becasuse you're biased. They are both about the same. Coulter said the second statement to remind people of what Maher had said about Cheney.

Both comments are equally bad. Calling for the death of a political opponent is ALWAYS wrong.

I hate to support Coulter but Maher is nowhere near as well informed as he thinks he is.
