Build a bridge and get over.
Living in Scotland, the ban has been in here for over a year now with no problems.
I was once like you. I am a smoker and was banging on about my right to smoke blah blah blah but it is actually a good thing I think.

I am a smoker, and a heavy one at that. But I do agree with the law. It has been proven that it does cause many diseases which ultimately a person can die from. 2nd hand smoke is also detrimental to other people.
Why are people quarantined when they have a deadly disease that can spread. For the same reason.
Smoking does disturb other people, and it is only proper even if you are in your own home if you have a guest you should ask them if it bothers them. That is what I do. If they say yes, then I take a piece of nicorrette gum. It is only common courtesy.
Don't worry your pretty little head over your country turning into communism. We have more important things in this world to worry about. Terrorism, war, etc,,
I understand you, but just go with the flow.

I am a smoker but I am all for the ban. I am not bothered about smoking at work because I work in a school and it has been banned there for years anyway. What concerns me is the fact that more people will stop at home and drink and smoke which will then subject children more so to second hand smoke. Also I think cases of domestic violence could go up because of people staying at home. I feel sorry for the older generation who smoke, both my grandfathers fought for this country for everyones right to choose how they want to llive. I feel I am living more in a society where we are told what we can and cant do. What has happened to our rights? All this said I am pleased that my children will grow up healthier (as I am now stopping!) But I am sorry to say labour will lose my vote in the next election probably wont make a difference though, never mind. This law is here to stay so we might as well get used to it.

There they go again, ranting on about smoking, with no hard facts to back it up, only innuendos from biased sources. Now if you want some real hard facts, let me tell you this is backed up to the hilt with scientific proof!. Babies and children can be seriously harmed by smoke, an adult in the same room as it, could and usually do, perish. It can cause asthma in otherwise healthy people. Oh! and the smoke? this from the lazy brigade of school runners, i.e. ! unfit child in a gas guzzler, driven by an equally unfit mother. This smoke unnecessarily produced in London alone, by these people in one day, can do more damage to others health, than all of London's tobacco smoke will do in 3 months. Taken over the whole U.K. the figures are colossal, but vehicles smoking outside will not help reduce their pollution. With the figures quoted how can anyone knock tobacco?, or have the nerve to blame diseases, caused by car fumes, so conveniently on tobacco. There are more asthma sufferers around now than there were 20 years ago, even though there were 3 times the amount of smokers. Its convenient and trendy today to lay the blame on someone else, so please, face up to the real truth, am I talking about you?, if so what do you intend to do about your bad habit?. Smokers are allowed no excuses, so please do not offer them any of yours. Who is the addicted one? or is it too hard to change 'your habit' for the benefit of others, as smokers have done for you?.

You have a right to stop yourself risking too-early death and insulting everyone around you - strangers and loved ones alike - the with the clinging stink and health hazard you cause with ciggie smoke. You have a right to think clearly for your self instead of following the foolish "fashionable" trend pushed at you by the tobacco lobby in Parliament, manufacturers, retailers and crackpot famous artists. All have a financial stake in tobacco, they have a hand in your pocket, profits continue to be big. It's big business and YOU're keeping it big. No wonder the rest of the population is glad to see the end is nigh for the daft, smelly, unhealthy stupidity of those hooked. Smokers do not pay for the NHS, they are an unnecessary and evil drain on its resources. Smoking is more rife in Communist states than here in UK where the people are better-educated. Non-smokers' rights are winning through here in UK, thank goodness.

Well said. I agree with you that many issues on the board today resemble communist and third world order. America was raised in cigarette smoke. It was the patience of a cigarette that enabled the workers to continue. To push them off the board today is not fair. They are to be represented just like the non smokers, no biased judgments.

As a smoker I can see your point, but as just a non labeled person, you ahve to think about it this way, if you are doing s/thing that is not only harmful to yourself, but to others as well why are you surprised for the ban?
I mean, second hand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking the cigarette itself. So lets all have a little respect for each other, and keep our bad habits to ourselves.
And, the day our government starts telling me what I can and cannot do in my own house would be the day that I for one would get the heck out of dodge!!

Hmmmm actually I pay my fair share towards the NHS and I don't smoke. I pay taxes on loads of stuff too. And what about the non smokers rights to be able to go somewhere and not be worried about the PROVEN harmful affects of passive smoking.............. not to mention that fact that all the smokers at my place demand breaks twice a day and us non smokers aren't allowed any - actually sounds like smokers get a better deal that way.....
