You have to be really relaxed when putting a tampon in. The best way to go about it is to put one leg on the toilet seat and spread the opening of the vagina with your fingers, then with the other hand gently slide the tampon in and push the plastic applicator upwards until the entire tampon is inside of your vagina. After you have inserted the tampon, throw the applicator away. You may have to push a little to get it in but if you're doing it right, it shouldn't be painful. Once it's in, if you can't feel it, you've inserted it properly. Always remember to wash your hands before and after putting a tampon in. You probably felt embarassed to have your Mom help you, which could have made you tense and when you're not relaxed, it is harder to insert the tampon. I use Kotex Regular tampons but you may want to try the Tampax Pearl since you are new with tampon use. Good luck.

You should wait until your body is more mature, before trying tampons.Never force a tampon inside your body,NEVER use Vaseline on a tampon ,and insert it in your body. The only lubricant you should ever use is a "water soluble" like "KY".Petroleum jelly products just sit inside the body, causing a source of bacteria, and keeps the tampon from absorbing the menstrual flow. Take care. SW RNP

I say Tampax Pearl I don't like wearing them either I use them only when its really necessary. My friend told me that those are the best ones to start with since they are made of plastic & not cardboard. I like them never use any other.

it might have been a super absorbant tampon. that means that it is 2x as likely to give you tss, plus it'll hurt for your small body. use tampax pearl light or regular. hope i helped!

I use tampax pearl. It shouldn't hurt. Are you sure it was in all the way. Make sure you get a plastic applicator, they are much more comportable to use.

It's not the tampon, you just have to try again. It took my daughter a few trys before she got it. It should not hurt and should go right in, when you find the right spot. Just relax, you'll get it.

Put a little vaseline on tip end first. Practice a little - it'll become easy & pain free.
