You shouldn't be scared at all! I have been using tampons for more than 10 years, it doesn't matter even if you are a virgin when you first use them. You just need to be relaxed when you insert it - the more stressed you are the more difficult it will be. And then you can forget about it, just make sure you take care of hygiene - like changing it every so often etc. Actually you can find all you need to know in a package of tampons! I hope you have a great time and be sure that tampons will make your life much easier!

You have alot of answers so I am not gonna repeat everything but one important thing that is not on the box is where to put the string once you do put in a tampon. The first time I used one I did not think to much about this. Needless to say I got really embarassed. It is best to put the string up toward the front between your labia (lips down there). They will hold it there. Oh yeah something else this helped my neice. Look down there with a mirror. This will help with locating where exactly it goes. Do not be embarrassed it is YOURS you can look at it.
Good luck to ya!

That's retarded. Tampons are like one of the best things ever invented. You just need to get over yourself and try them. Have an open mind. It may help to use a finger first because it's not as wide as a tampon and you can figure out where exactly the hole is and the angle of it... it actually goes towards your back, not straight up.
And yes the trick when wearing one with a swimisuit is to tuck the string between your inner (labia minora) and outer (labia majora) lips.

There is nothing to be scared of. Tampons don't hurt and are very easy to use. Just relax before inserting one and make sure to follow the directions that came in the box. Don't leave it in for longer than 8 hours. If the tampon hurts, it is not in all the way, should be removed and another one inserted.

Don't be scared I had a similar problem when I was 18...a friend of mine wanted me to go with them and some other friends and I had just started my period and when I told her why I could not go she told me to she had some tampons that I could have and I was VERY scared too but I wanted to go with my friends so I read the directions put one in and I have NEVER used a pad since it was that best thing I did I was much more confident after that...once you try it is nothing after that you will do fine.....and most importantly have fun

I had the same problem. Don't be worried about tampons, they aren't as scary as they seem. It may take a couple tries, but the instructions that some in the tampon box are REALLY helpful. But trust, it is so worth it, and much easier when you get used to it. Good luck!

It's not hard. It's easier when you're period is heavy because it acts as a lubricant.. As long as the tampon isn't in for more than like 6-8 hours then you should be okay. Just follow the instructions, and be sure to get your size.

Wow...so many answers....i dont know what else to add.
Girl ....as the others say Tampons are the best. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
Ask your mom too if your too scared by yourself and for practice try it at home and see how it feels because it better to get as much as practic for comfort before tensing yourself on the day itself....

Face your fears. Trust me once you use a tampon, you won't go back to those diapers! You have to be brave. Talk to your mom about it. This happened to me I had to use a tampon. DON'T GO IN THE POOL WiTH A PAD OUT WiTHOUT SOME PROTECTiON. Don't listen to anybody who tells you your period stops in water. It's a myth! Be safe, not sorry. Use a tampon! You have to!
