Earning respect is something that comes over time.

Basically:
- Be mature & understanding of other's concerns
- Care for yourself
- Care for the things you and the things others own
- Try not to snap at people
- If you have a problem with someone: talk it out
- Don't resort to fighting, tantrums, etc..
- Really listen to what others have to say
- If you have a point to prove - research and back it up
- Take care of your personal financial responsibilities
- Care about where you're going in life (school & work wise)

Most importantly:

*Treat others the way you would like to be treated*

Hope this helps!

You respect others and yourself. This gets touchy sometimes but it is not that hard to accomplish. When you show respect for others opinions and beliefs and still manage to respect your own opinions and choices then you haven't so much earned other people's respect but you have put yourself in a position where you can demand the respect of others.

Showing you are trustworthy, willing to work for what you get, responsible for your time and possessions, and willing to help others. If you are told every night to be home by 10pm, and every night you are home by 10pm, I can trust you in that area. If you are home at 10:10, 10:30. 11 and always making excuses, then I can't trust you in that area. Same with completing homework, waking up on time, helping out around the house etc. And when you find someone you can trust, you are confident in them and able to give them much more freedom. I'm glad you are interested in being someone worthy of respect. People like that turn out to be quite successful because those qualities carry over from home to school to job, etc.

I've always felt that respect is earned where it is given. Give people plenty of respect and they will give you plenty in return.
