I have a 2006 325iX and the hesitation is about 3 seconds. i think the car is dangerous to drive for that reason. The dealer can't do anything for it because it comes from the combination of sequential transmission and drive by wire. Bad engineering, no more BMWs for me.

I think your dealer doesn't know what they're talking about.

Go to another dealer.

I have a drive-by-wire throttle car also. Can the dealer re-initialize the servo motor for the throttle? It could be the throttle is not zeroed properly causing a lag when it receives the signal to open from the accelerator pedal and computer. Also check to see if there is a program update for the throttle. Look for a Technical Service Bulletin regarding throttle response for BMW 3-series within your model year but check earlier years also.

i had the car to at least 3 dealers. finally, a factory engineer looked at and we drove it together. I showed him the problem and he admitted that it does have an admitted significant delay in acceleration and he said "Let the lawyers take care of it.". He confirmed that nothing else could be done about the problem because the sequential transmission needs time to downshift. (presumably sequentially). In making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic 1 block away, the car hesitated, the oncoming traffic caught up to me, and horns start blowing. Thats an impossible situation for me. I can;t handle it.

there is a bulletin for the drive by wire problem.. it can be fixed yourself or the bmw dealership should do it for free.. i had mine fixed at a dealer for free.. i asked about it and they claimed they knew nothing but then i whipped out the bulletin number and they searched and fixed it

i forgot the bulletin number but if you visit:
www.e46fanatics.com and search under drive by wire you will find it... or just ask the community

Take it to another BMW dealer... they can fix it. Anything on the car can be fixed.
