I was induced twice using pitocin. I thought my labors were easy. Of course, I elected to have an epidural. I was actually bored up until the last hour with both of them. And, I have NO tolerance for pain. My son, they started the pitocin about 4 on a Friday and had to stop about 8 because of a problem with the hospital vacuum system. They started up about 7 on Saturday and I had him at 7:43 that night. With my daughter, they started the pitocin about 9:30 am Friday and she was born at 11:27 that night. I watched TV, napped, played games, etc while I waited. As I started to feel some discomfort, I got the epidural and was all set.

I was induced 2 days before my due date with patosin. I dialated pretty fast while I walked around the hallways with the IV, and then they said they were going to break my water. I had them call the epidural guy before I let them so I wouldn't have to wait so long afterwards. The contractions were worse once the water was broke, but after my epidural I didn't feel ANY pain. She came out after less than 20 minutes of pushing. They started the whole process around 7am and she was born before 3pm. I am currently 22 weeks right now, and I am going to talk to my doctor about doing it again once its time. I was actually more afraid to go into labor naturally. hope this helps and good luck!

Induction with Pitosin can bring on more intense contractions and possible put the baby in distress. I don't think anyone would reccommend it!
All the babies I have known that have been induced have turned out okay. Some of them had to end up emergency c-sections but mom and baby ended up just fine.
I have been induce once at 42weeks. I believe that when you are induce it is often a two step process expecially if your cervix in not "ripe". I was 3cm at 42 weeks and I guess my cervix still wasn't ready.
I began with misoprostol, a table that is placed on the cervix. Later I read this too can be dangerous. In my case it could have been because I my labor went so fast. I started contractions at 7:00 am and had my baby at 8:39 a.m. Whew!
Thankfully, I never had to have pitosin because I needed to be in the shower for both my girls' labor. You probably should check with your OB what are the restrictions on birthing aids when you are on pitosin or pain meds.
Good luck to you and Congratulations!!

I was induced with my first baby and I didn't think it was that bad. I have also heard that it makes the contractions harder, but I don't think it did. I didn't really feel the contractions until after the doctor broke my water about an hour before my daughter was born. She was born about 8 hours after they started the drip. Overall I would say I had an easy delivery. I didn't have an epidural either (just because I didn't want one, nothing to do with being induced). They worst part about it for me was that I was hooked up to a monitor and and iv and after awhile all that crap was really annoying. Try not to be anxious about it. Not all people who are induced have a hard time. I really think when it comes to labor and delivery a positive attitude is the best thing you can have.

I was induced with Pitocin. And yes it is painful but only because it brings on really intense contractions. I would recommend getting an epidural as soon as the doctor allows you to after the pitocin is given. It really eases away the pain. And just in case you were planning on going "natural" I would strongly advise againist it when you are being induced. There is nothing wrong with going with "natural with pain reliever". Even though I had an epidural I still felt the birth of my beautiful daughter with every push & groan but without the pain. Good luck and congrats

I had pitocin with my first. The nurses kept coming in to see if I needed anything for discomfort from the contractions and did ok for most of the labor. Probably the last hour-1/2 I needed something. Looking back I would say it isn't so bad, they can adjust the drip if your contractions are coming too quickly. And with any childbirth there is discomfort and you can always get an epidural or something to help you relax. Your child birth coach can work with you on this aspect to make it as pleasant an experience as possible and the final outcome of that little tiny perfect creature laying on your abdomen makes all the memories of the discofort disappear.

I had it with both of my sons. I recommend that you get an epidural as soon as possible. I went 36 hours on patosin with my first and no drugs and it was very difficult. For my second son they gave me the epidural and could thus give me a higher dosage of patosin so I was only in labor for 12 hours and much more comfortable too.
Good luck and congratulations!

I worked in L&D as a nurse for quite awhile. Pitocin is commonly used in deliveries and as long as it is given correctly, you should not have any problems. It's oxytocin which is found normally in the body and it causes the uterus to contract, making you go into labor and deliver easier. Most of the women I saw who had Pitocin used did fine. All labors are different. Some women have smooth labors that last 15 minutes, Some 36 hours so no one can guarantee you for sure what your experience would be. I firmly believe in mind over matter and the fact that all of us are capable of giving birth.Trillions of women have done it. The end result is really worth it.

Everyone LOVES to tell their HORROR story.
Don't listen to them.
I was induced with patosin on my first and only child and it was a wonderful experience.
I went in at 11:30am, they got me started, I never felt a contraction because when I was dilated to a 3 they gave me my epidural.
I got to fully enjoy the birth of my daughter. I only pushed 3 times and wasn't even sure if I was pushing, lol! I got to smile and laugh through the whole thing. I had her at 7:30 that evening. It was GREAT!

I was induced with my son. If I was given the option I would avoid an induction the second time around, because the nurses kept coming in the room and gawking about how big and long my contractions were.....but I had a great epidural and my son was born in about 6 hours, so really it wasn't a bad experience at all!
