I think it is legal to sell them, but it may be illegal for the person who buys them to use them in class, it may be considered cheating.

Of course it's legal. They are your notes. This is a prime example of "caveat emptor." The buyer assumes the responsibility of the quality of the notes. In class, you note what you think is relavent to you, what you need to help you remember and apply what you have supposedly learned. The notes may be less meaningful to the purchaser.

As far as whether it is cheating, consider this. I had a class in which a student was introduced to us as being hearing impaired. Volunteers were asked to share their notes with the student. I don't think the school had any intentions of accusing anyone of "cheating," in this case.

Sharing notes, or selling notes; what is the difference?

Its perfectly legal as long as you put it down in your own words and understanding from a student perspective..and give credit to the relevant teacher..there are places like the first www.noteplates.com that allows you to buy/sell/donate notes. I would prefer the latter (donate).

They are your notes, taken by your hand, on your paper, with your pen, so they are your property to dispose of as you see fit. Illegal -- no.

Unethical? Ah, there's the real question. **Selling** your notes to other classmates smacks a bit of extortion. But if they were too darned lazy to get their butts out of bed to attend class, then . . . .

They are yours to do with as you please; however, make sure that you tell people that they are your notes based on your understanding of the lecture and you cannot guarantee someone else's success.

Sure, but I would hate to be the one who hires the goofball that buys them!
