Dude George Washinton Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson all grew Marijuana. They used it to make hemp for rope, canvas and burlap. The word cannabis actually comes from the Dutch word for canvas. So yes practically everyone grew weed back in the day. Did they smoke it? Histroy keeps that a secret

Dude, read some history. Hemp was raised for fiber. Paper, clothing, and rope. At one time it was illegal for farmers NOT to grow hemp. The anti-marijuana laws came about because of the politics of the timber/paper business. The Hearsts and DuPont families were involved, as they benefitted and made a ton of money when hemp was outlawed. Now the factories produce paper or plastic. Hemp, actually, still just makes more sense.

While I can't say for sure if TJ smoked his crop or not, it is a fact that Abe Lincoln did. There is a letter from AL in the national archives written to a harmonica company thanking them for the gift. In it he wrote that there is nothing he enjoys more than sitting on his porch in the evenings playing his harmonica and smoking a marijuana cigarette.

He grew hemp. People back then made all kinds of stuff out of hemp (rope, clothes, etc). I would wager that he didn't smoke it though.
