I want to get a present for my husband that is very, very special and very meaningful. Something that he will treasure forever. The thing is, is that he is really hard to buy for and nothing I get he ever seems to like. Do you have any ideas?

My favorite gifts from my wife deal with my hobbies. My wife once gave me a painting set for traveling (I love to paint) and it's still one of my favorite gifts. I'm not a big fan of gifts though. If there is something I like or need, I've probably already got one. What makes my "special" days most memorable are the nice meals she cooks me on those days. Nothing fancy, just my favorites. But what men want most is sex (trust me on this one) and no "special memory" for a man is complete with out it.

Men are simple creature, so in summary:

1. Hobbies
2. Food
3. Sex

and to keep it really simple:

Show up naked, bring beer

Just trust me on that one.

For gift ideas, wait until you are hanging out together, and he says, "Wow, that thing is cool." and make a mental note of what he liked, and get it for him. Give him your gift during a nice weekend, away from the kids, along with some other special "favors" (nudge nudge, wink wink). And let him watch alot of T.V. as you feed him grapes and beer (while wearing a "special" outfit just for him). Oh, and pay close attention to the "guy" answers here, and you may notice a common theme. Enjoy.

Ummmm ...give this a try ....bring him shopping, but let him pick out his own gift. I know U want it to be a surprise but sometimes the best surprise is letting the person choose what they want, cuz only they know there own personal tastes. Set aside some moola, and at the right time {out of the blue} spring it on ur hubby. Its a suggestion if U think its a good idea by all means try it :o) take care and good luck.

There's a website where you can "buy" a star--they will officially name it after him & send you a star-map so you can find it. It costs about $50--
www.starregistry.com is one of the sites.

If you don't think he'd like that, look on e-bay for a musical or sports souvenir--a signed item is usually rare enough that the recipient is very happy. A guitar pick, signed poster or album of his favorite band, or a signed ball, helmet or jersey of his favorite team or player would be a good idea.

One of the greatest presents I ever got was the puppy I gave my wife thirteen years ago; I didn't love animals before that.

Other than that, they have wonderful gifts for everyone at Teach12.com (something is 70% off at all times).

Cat, this is difficult. Men are not terribly sensitive creatures. I think, though, that something tying in with your children is a good idea. I did a series of watercolors of my nieces for my brother one year, and he treasures that immensely. If you have access to an artist who can do something like that, I'm sure he would appreciate it. I know I would love something like that of my daughter.

A weekend off to a resort...just the two of you. Make sure it has wifi...in case he gets the jitters when being away from his precious computer too long. Things mean little to a man...he can buy them himself. But romance is lovely, and change roles...leave him a flower on his pillow....I can guarantee he will not forget that one!

Without knowing ANYTHING about your husband, how is anybody supposed to suggest something that would hit the spot? Ya gotta give us a little more to go on darling! Still, here are some suggestions based on knowing absolutely nothing about the guy............

* Football tickets to see his favorite team this Fall?
* Go WITH him to a strip club to get some lap dances?
* Box of fine cigars?
* Weekend pass to go with his friends to Vegas?

and my personal favorite...........

* Send the kids to grandmas for the weekend and tell him you're willing to do absolutely ANYTHING between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening! See what he can come up with! (just make sure your girlfriend knows what's up when she agrees to come over!)

How about a collage of special photographs? Buy a large frame with collage cutouts. I did 2 collages...one was of my guy and myself 12 different pics in all of various trips we'd taken together. Another was with pics of all his favorite people. He loved it!
