It's between Kneebend, Egypt and Brokeback Mountain, Egypt. They have no official post office, therefore no official zip code.

The first known use of the phrase—long form: Buttfuck Egypt—was in 1972, as troops in Vietnam referred to lost records as having gone to the mythical address of “Bumfuck, Egypt.” (Why they were using the largely British term “bum” instead of “butt” is a mystery.)
The phrase (using either “Bum-” or “Butt-”) then trickled down into college slang as a negative term for “the middle of nowhere,” probably as young soldiers came home or wrote to friends.
Homesick (or cabin-fevered) kids stateside weren’t worried about the “address” lost items went to; they felt like they were living at that address themselves.
Variations and abbreviations such as “BFE,” “Bumblefuck, Egypt,” and “East Bumfuck” have been around at least since 1989.
Let me first state the not-so-obvious: There is no place in Egypt—or anywhere else, for that matter—with a name that’s particularly similar to “Buttfuck” or “Bumfuck.”
The phrase is simply an exquisitely vulgar compound of two popular concepts, put together by someone with a talent for profanity.
As the “Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang” notes, “buttfuck” dates to the early 1960s as a slang term meaning “to victimize” or “an instance of victimization; an unfortunate event”—like, say, losing military records, or being stuck in the middle of nowhere. This presumably derives from the male-rape/homophobic equation of anal intercourse with pain and unwanted sex.
As for “Egypt,” it’s interesting to note that in some places during the early 1900s, it was a slang term for a toilet or outhouse. While there’s probably no direct connection to our phrase, the underlying meaning is the same: a place far away or removed from regular affairs.
Egypt is simply a remote and exotic country to Westerners, who have gone through at least two major pop-culture fixations on things Egyptian in the past 150 years.
In suggesting something screwed-up happening somewhere impossibly remote, the phrase could just as well have been “Buttfuck, Siberia,” or “Buttfuck, Mars.”
But that anonymous military genius—Patton, eat your heart out—heard the poetry in “Egypt,” and gave lonely kids everywhere the greatest thing since sliced “Cowtown.”
