It's about this soldier in WWII who thinks its all a game. That everybody is just "playing wounded" until some mean guy tells him the truth. I know it's out there, but I can't remember the name of it or who wrote it. I sure would appreciate some help, because it's driving me crazy.

I have everything by Hemingway and Vonnegut, so I know it isn't by them.
I've been thinking about it, and i know it's got the word Bang! in the title, but that's not the whole title.

Try John A Williams or John Killens World War II novels and short stories. Captain Midnight for Killens and William's one act play which the word August appears in the title.

Could it be by Ernest Hemingway? He wrote a few stories about WWII.

I looked around but couldn't find anything to match this. Do you remember any more details? The basic premise reminds me of the movie Life is Beautiful.

I believe this is part of a Kurt Vonnegut story but am not sure. I am hoping this info will help another poster figure it out!
