I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I have been having on and off lower back pain and abdominal pain all day, very similar to period cramps. I haven't noticed them coming in any regular pattern, but they have been coming all day and are quite painful. Does anyone know if labour could start soon and has anyone else experienced these just before labour began. Thanks x

If they are quite painful there is a good possibility you may be in the early stages, but it could go off agian as they may be Braxton Hicks.

Im 41 weeks and have had those pains for about for days. Its my third and even though its my third you still feel like every preganacy is different. My braxton hicks this time have been alot more painfull and everyday its a feeling of "is this it?"
I think if they are becoming painful to the point that you feel like you are in severe pain then call your caregiver or local hospital to see what they think. Some labours do start with the period pain like cramps, which with time spread up and over your stomach and then into your back.I have been told that the pains you are describing are just your body preparing your self for when they do start.
Just remember to contact somebody if you are not 100% about these pains and dont be embarrassed if its not the start of labour as every baby is different!!good luck!!

im 37 weeks today , i have been getting them for around 4 weeks... i spoke to my maternity doctor on tuesday and he asked why i had'nt gone into hospital to have it checked out? but as i had'nt had any bleeding,no show or waters breaking and baby still very active i did'nt see the point. he did point out that for some the tightenings can get worse towards the end. he has also brought my c-section forward a week so i will be going in on the 5th instead of the 12th (as i have a history of early labor & placenta previa). if the pains were to get any stronger or i have any signs of blood, show or waters breaking i am advised to go straight in to hospital to deliver... at 37 weeks baby is fine to be born, keep an eye on the strength and regularity of the pains and if you notice a change give your midwife or the hospital a ring... good luck

I had severe braxton hicks for 2 months. Good Luck! I actually started to go into labor at 35 weeks(doc kept tellign me braxton hicks) but then they started to dialte me so they gave me pills to stop it. Since 35 weeks on i continiued to have real bad ones, then finally they were 2 min apart n got worse. I kept track of the contractions EVERY DAY i thought i was goign into labor every day but they never got any closer then 5 min apart then it would be 2 min 5, 10 2, 7 ect.... by the end of the day the subsided then had it again next day. This is normal or the doc might tell u they r real and dialating you! congrats!

I have three kids also. My first one started out with period like cramps. Sounds like labor could start soon. Drink lots of water and lay down on your left side for awhile. If they go away - it's just BH contractions, if it doesn't - it's real. If they get closer together and more painful - it's real. You can always go in to the hospital and have them check you if you're not sure.
Better to be safe.

yep i had them just before i went into labor at 35 weeks. but i think the docs just miscalculated my due date. i started hurting about 7 or 8 the night before and hurt until early morning and decided to go to the hospital. my water had broke and i didn't even know it. i had the same thing with #2 at 36 weeks. both babies were healthy and weighted 6lbs 12 oz and 6 lbs 13oz

I had this sort of thing during both of my pregnancies for about a week before I finally gave birth - a sort of twingey, uncomfortable feeling. If they get more painful and/or more regular, you're probably there, but believe me, you will know about it!!!! All the best of luck to you and your new arrival xxx
