I came to San Francisco from Europe few months ago. It surprises me that temperature in San Francisco can be 20-30 degrees cooler than any places across the Bay or Golden Gate bridge. So cold, I can't get a tan in June-July !!!!

The questions is - I'm new here and have no idea where are these beaches across the bridges ??? I don't want to drive too far and I want to make sure I will be able to find parking. All I need is the beach about 30-40 minutes away, but I'm stuck looking for it. I'm not into nude beaches, thought.

Please, help !!!
Alec.

The whole west side of the SF peninsula is beach. If you're in SF, just drive west. When your car gets wet, you're there.

Fog usually burns off by noon.

Too bad you're not into nude beaches. There's a bunch of them.

You could also drive north on Hwy-1 to Stinson beach. Huge. Can't miss it.

Yes, non-Californians don't seem to understand that the coast here is not hot and sunny much of the time but FOGGY. Inland is very hot and sunny. The worst months are May and June, but fog is prevalent in SF most of the summer. Forget the beach town within 30-40 minutes drive of SF with sun - you won't find it. Go find a pool about 20 miles inland (like a nice resort in Napa) or come further south like Santa Barbara or even further south after the month of June when fog season starts to decline in Southern California. Even then it is hit and miss - fog happens from time to time all summer long.

Sorry - California is not like Bay Watch. Big myth.

Quote by Mark Twain was something to the effect that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.

I feel you on wanting to get a tan. I love to tan in the sun but I can't find the time with work during the day. I started using daily glow moisturizer (medium to deep ) and it works great, my skin always has a sun kissed glow but isn't as dry when I used to tan in the tanning bed. Hope this helps, you will love the time it wil save you plus it is much better for your skin

There is a nude beach down near Santa Cruz.

Ask the locals.

The weather there is better than in the city.

It has nothing to do with temperature, you can still get burned when it's cloudy and 60 degrees, it's all about the UV index, watch the weather channel it will tell you the UV index for the day.
