Hello, I have a 1998 528i with 96XXX miles on it. It has been working well for a while, but recently I have noticed the temperature gauge shows the car is overheating, and then goes back to normal. Has anyone had a similar problem or know what is causing this? Thanks!

Check whether the V belt is tight for the water pump ,check the fan which is on clutch system, check the thermostat, check for any leaks. If this overheating is during the ac on,then your electric fan for air con condensor is getting weak.
Lastly check the radiatorwhther choked.

bad map thermostat. it is common for coolant to leak out of area where the connector is. it will cause your t-stat to work incorrectly. take it to the dealer. it will cost about 100.00 in parts and about 250.00-300.00 in labor.
if your car overheats you can do alot of damage to engine. get it fixed sooner than later

Have it checked before it causes something else to go wrong.
