.....It is possible that higher-order mammals, such as chimps and dogs - which have a cerebral cortex with frontal lobes, experience their own mammalian equivalent of humor. It isn't humor as we know it, because our sophisticated human intelligence enables a sense of humor based on an understanding of the world. In the play of dogs, for example, or the antics of chimps, we may see something akin to humor. But it's not even remotely like a human sense of humor.
Fish, birds, snakes and insects, however, definitely do NOT have a sense of humor.
Hey, even the British and Americans, who belong to the same species and possess human intelligence to the same degree, have striking differences in their senses of humor!

yeah, my cat thinks she's kool. She knows when she did something or did something funny and she enjoys a good laugh and responds by hanging around me and curling up and extending her paw or patting my face. She's very aware, even knows when I have my contacts in (she must smell the contact). When I go to say something to her she acknowledges by opening her mouth in almost a yawn (but no real yawn). She has sharp vision like an eagle, she responds to what I ask or what I show her (like bye, I'm going grocery shopping, so she waits at the door for me). Today I was eating cherries with tails and she came and grabbed one of the tails and ran off with one of the cherries. She's teasing sure, but surely she knew I would tackle her to try to get the cherry back. Sure she has a sense of humor. She has every other emotion.

I think they do have a form of humor. When I watch my dogs play, they like to trick each other and roll around on the floor and it seems to me that they are having fun. They do look like they're smiling really big, too. I think a lot of animals have a lot more feelings and emotions than most people give them credit for.

well, my cat blocked me from going to my room on purpose and she re-routed me to go to the kitchen so I could feed her. I think that is really funny!

Yes, of course animals have a sense of humour, just as they feel pain and hunger, happiness and love. It's just that because we try to judge every species' actions and behaviours by human standards that we don't appreciate that fact.

I believe they do. My dog does. He has his own personality. I often tell my daughter that the dog is a little man in a dog suit. He gets depressed too. When he gets his own way with my daughter you can almost see a humorous smirk on his face and see it in his eyes, as if too say i got one up on you......

cats have a sense of humour...not a good one but yes to dump hot tea repeatedly in someones lap is a nasty sense of humor...many animals do...elephants,wolves ....they use humor as a teaching tool and no doubt to have fun....otters are another example

Oh yes, i really think they do. Sometimes my dogs will do the craziest things and they will look at me as if to check if I'm watching. Its so funny, and sometimes I really think they do it to cheer me up.
