I have white sheets at home and I can never get them white again. I know it’s not staining from the bleach I use because the fitted sheet is stained and the pillow cases are stained while the “loose” sheet is not. I’d like to try some home remedies before I go out and buy some more chemicals. As well, I can’t hang my sheets to dry in the sun because we don’t have a fence to hang a clothes line on and we don’t have anything for the sheets to hang off of outside.

Just a note -- I wash the whole set together, the two sheets and two pillowcases. So that's how I know it's not the bleach.

soak them in a mixture of 2 cups vinegar to one gallon of water, with the water being as hot as the clothes can take. let soak overnight, then wash with no detergent. If they are completely white clothes, a half cup of dishwasher detergent (electrosol type) as well as a half cup of borax (40 mule team borax sold at most stores) should do the trick. For colored clothes, use a color safe bleach alternative such as clorox II or oxyclean with the borax. Chlorine bleach will take out the color and can actually CAUSE yellowing in some fabrics. If there is any yellow left, hang out in the sun for a while to finish bleaching them out.

The fabric content of the set might not be the same for all pieces. if one piece is 100% cotton, but the other sheet is a blend (for stretch maybe) the bleach will affect the one more than the other.

There is also a product that is called "yellow out" that works pretty well.

Hope this helps! :)

I know you said you can't, but the sun works better than anything, it's free and very eco-friendly :) Use two or three chairs and just drape the sheets over the chairs, or you could use bicycles or ladders. They'll dry quickly, bleach out and smell really good. Where there's a will, there's a way!

Bleach will turn sheets yellow with prolonged use.... I add baking soda to the wash water along with my detergent and that should help and not ruin the sheets.. Also, oxyclean works really well...

If you have a garden with a little patch of grass , you can lay them on the grass, then the sun will bleach them white again. Pre-wash them first and add Bio-Tex, this will get them looking white again
