I installed a new graphic card on my computer - XFX 8800 XXX 320 GTS. Then I installed windows XP Pro SP2 after total format of C:\. I installed the latest drivers and I'm getting very low FPS (5-30) in Quake 4, NFS Carbon and other games of similar requirements, at 1024x768, full details. I got Athlon 64 X2 4200, 2 Gb of 1000 Mhz RAM and 450 Chieftec power supply (a good make). What is going on? Why am I getting so poor number of FPS?

I wish I could give you a definitve answer, but I can tell you what is NOT wrong. Unlike what some of the other answers have said, that card is more than powerful enough, you have a plenty big enough power supply, and it has nothing to do with settings.

I would do a full spyware and virus scan, make sure there is nothing eating up processor power in the background, and if that doesn't work, it would seem there is some type of hardware problem, perhaps the graphics card is bad. There is nothing else I can say definitively without being able to look at the computer, but don't let anybody on here lead you to believe that there isn't a problem, because this is abnormal performance for your setup.

Turn the details down. Your processor and video card aren't really that good. Settings like AA and AF are going to wreck your setup. Even large textures might be a problem.

MAke sure the in game settings match the maximums of the graphics card. Most games are preconfigured for low graphics capapbilities, and will limit your card until you change them in game! Make sure that graphics is set as default, not the ones on the motherboard etc.
