I own a 2001 Stratus R/t coupe. It keeps making a grinding/churning/ heavy rattleing noise. It use to only do it if I hit a hole or dip in the road, but now it seems to do it if i excelerate or decelerate or when I make a sharper turn. Its getting worse. My b/f keeps telling me he will get a friend of his to look at it, but STILL hasn't. Im not very good with cars (all I can do is change a tire, change and check oil pretty much) and I dont want to keep driving it if its going to really mess up the car befor I can get some extra money saved up to have a mechanic look at it. Any suggestions?

if you hear a grinding noise all the time when you are actually moving in the car, then try to isolate what corner the noise in coming from. That would be indicitive of a bad wheel bearing. A bad wheel bearing needs to be replaced immediatly!!! A churning noise can also be described as a grinding as well...if the noise seems to change in its sound with the speed of the car then I would still say its a wheel bearing. A ratteling noise would tend to lend itself to a suspension problem however as you stated it has gotten progressivly worse with time and THAT is the very nature of a bad wheel bearing... over time they will sound more and more horriable. The only other thing I can think of is worn out brake pads that are now grinding metal to metal... if it is doing it all the time when the car is moving and even without pressing on the brake while moving then you have VERY serious brake issues and you need to NOT drive that car till it is fixed. DONT even drive it to the repair shop...have it towed. If the noise seems to be unrelated to the application of the brakes then I still say its a wheel bearing. Try to figure out what corner the noise is coming from and tell the repair shop what all you know about the noise. The more accurate you can be in your description of the noise...i.e, when it happens, where it seems to be coming from, even impressions by you of the noise are very helpful in diagnosing a problem...espically here in Yahoo answers.

Sounds like a problem with the suspension. You could have a CV joint going out. You need to get it to a repair shop before you are stuck on the road or in an accident. good luck

Have you considered that this sound may just be in your head? It's probably be a sign that you're going batshit crazy and should satisfy your lust for human flesh before it's too late.
