You could have a major leak in the system. The only way to know, is to have it checked by a repair shop with the equipment to find the leak. It could just be a seal or it could be the compressor. Big difference in price. Anywhere from about a 100 to 1500. Good luck.

You most likely have a leak as you said you added coolant a couple of weeks ago.

There is a pressure switch in the system which disables the compressor if the coolant pressure falls below a certain level. This is because there should also be lubricant in with the coolant. Without this lubricant, the compressor would burn up and seize. This is why your AC failed so abruptly.

Unfortunately, you need to bring it to a certified AC mechanic.

He will have the proper equipment to do a leak check so it can be repaired properly.

He also has the proper equipment to evacuate and purge the system so it can take a complete charge. If there was any air in the system when you recently recharged it, the air took up space that the coolant needed so it really wasn't fully charged.

Unfortunately, these specialized mechanics are quite expensive so it may cost you several hundred dollars to have your AC repaired correctly. If your car is older, you may want to evaluate spending so much money.
